car = 1995 240sx Base
possibly invovled mods = crappy muffler weld on, (missing IAT) k&n filter

it's not really a major problem, but its a bit weird. my car idles funny when coasting backwards. the rpms fluctuate from 1.3k and down to 600, and back up again... at pretty regular intervals too. i can be in reverse gear, any foward gear, or shifter selected neutral; as long as it is 'coasting' backwards it does this. in gear, or coasting foward it is fine. it also seems to be worse when the wheels are turned more. any ideas?

another strange issue... when the car is cold and i turn the headlights on the rpms jump 400rpms and then settle back to normal. one time it did it while the car was moving and it actually jerked the car! felt like a clutch kick... it was that big of a jerk. i don't think this is normal...

well any ideas or insight is much appreciated :bow:

Your car is possessed. I suggest smudging/exorcising it, and asking the mean, woogy spirits to leave your poor S14 alone.
:)

The headlights thing sounds like an electrical weirdness. Check the battery charge and all that? Alternator as well maybe? Just a thought, don't take my word for it.

You've got me stumped with the backwards-thing. Hey, a little exorcism can't hurt, right?

*sigh* it sucks... im going to do the usual clean out the maf and check the throttle body etc but i doubt thats the problem. i wonder if the grapefruit launcher exhaust is scooping up air when i go backwards. reverse exhaust flow at 2 mph? nevermind... dumb idea.

when it gets dark now i always pull over to turn my headlights on. i guess i'll be the first to do the headlight-kick drift. headlights on and a bit of hard steering to kick out the rear. m4d 1337 dr1f7 y0!!!!

i found another weird problem (or maybe feature)? i was screwing around with the high beams while my girlfriend (parked in front of me) was getting stuff out of her car. she ran around to me and was like... "omg how did you make you car wink at me?" i was like "huh...?" turns out when i use the lever to turn on the high beam theres a point when only one light is on. so if i flick it on and off my car winks at people. should be fun on the road lol.:hammer: anyone else have this 'feature' on their car?

For ur idling problem, check the AIV i here that will mess with your idle. Theres some write ups on it do a search and find them. I used to get it on my S13, i just replaced the o2 sensor and clamp intake hoses down good, Helped solve the problem but now and then when its cold it will rev at 1k-2k at lights but when it warms up, its all fine. I had that headlight problem on my old Turbo Grand Prix was kind of cool but got old after a week :).

S14 doesn't have an AIV, but thanks man :P . i was thinking of getting these used o2 sensors from someone on these forums. however, i have no idea how difficult installing the small and large o2 sensors is. ah... research research~

:P well i did not know s14 didn't have any oh well. o2 sensors shouldn't cost much new, wasn' hard for me on my SOHC, just screws in and out :). but then agian i dunno how different a s14 is.
