I would like to know everyone's opinion of the rust forming in the following pics.
And quite possibly if anyone knows what the tape is covering up.
I can't take a look at the car myself as it is 4700 miles away.

what are you expecting?
its an old car, it will need restoration. every car is like this, some more, some less.
this doesnt look like anything out of the ordinary, it just looks like it needs work.

Thats pretty bad. if its showing up that much in the engine bay your probably going to have to cut out a bunch from the bottom. and Satek is right its probably better to look for a local car. If you are looking at a car thats 4700 miles away, try a car from CA. there no snow so there no salt on the roads. Winter is pretty much some showers and light jacket weather here.

I think the tape is covering a botched attempt to re-route the harness, then they came in the side and spray-foamed it.
I think, just looked quick.

buyer is a ginger, don't trust him!
the rust is pretty mediocre, the only problem would be replacing the one directly on the seam, since its pretty big. Everything else is no big deal, especially the air filter

If the price is reasonable, do it. It looks fairly clean underneath. Just expect to spend some time removing rust and undercoating. Look into POR-15, its the cats meow.

The real question here is, why the fuck are you buying a car from Japan, that can be acquired here?

It's more convenient for me to buy one in japan and pick it up at the port in vancover. Not to mention it's cheaper to buy them and cheaper to ship.
The bubble dildo shifters come standard too :p

Just ask for frame rail pics and more pics underneath? The engine bay stuff is nothing

ah the beautiful white engine bay paint... and of course, the interior when removed will also be white
i love half-assed color-changes. exterior looks OK but the white, kills it for me.
its like going out with a fake blonde and the curtains dont match the drapes

In Canada, you can buy these RHD cars on the cheap. AND you don't have to worry about swaps...There are quite a few good deals to be had...

doesn't look too bad from those pics
but only an up close inspection will tell you for sure
I see plenty of CA cars that have really shitty surface rust
where the battery acid spilled but perfectly clean underneath
(I own a couple of them)

In this thread: Cali guys that fear a bit of rust work. Come to the east coast, boys.
I'd definitely check under the tape. If you do get it, you *will* want to take an effort to stop/repair anything already there. If you let it go another six months to a year, it will be very bad.

I'd just look locally. I could never buy a car without being able to see and inspect it in person. Pictures don't mean shit.

on the frame rails, going up to the engine bay and directly below the brake master. it can get pretty bad in those spots, but from the pics looks fine. I still fit all of it.
