K so i think ive about had it with 240's. Im ready to swap my rb25 into my s13, and i basically can anticipate how its going to feel...
I am also about to pick up a J30 for a good price, and have been thinking about making this the swap candidate. With a curb weight of about 3500 pounds, it is heavier but i think i can cut down that weight somewhat to maybe a respectable 3300 pounds or so. But i think with the adaption of all of my suspension and the luxury of the j30 i will be much happier. Beginning to hate the s13 and its flimsy chassis.
I am having trouble finding any info about the j30 crossmember, if it will bolt on to the s13, meaning i could bolt the s13 crossmember onto the j30 and hopefully use my top hat mounts for the rb25. If some people help me out i will be glad to put together a build thread soon.

iirc j30 has the vg motor in it...why not swap a vg30dett into it.

have you seen a vg30?? Then tell me thats the engine you want.
This thread isnt about what motor i am using, its about the crossmember of the j30 to clarify.

ok well it wont bolt on they do not have the same mounting points.
look at people who dropped in rb's into the 300zx thats your best betfor guidance
rb's dont use stock s13 subframes they use gtst or custom mount kits if you did research you would know that.
and yes ive built 2 vg tt's and they make awesome power

no the top hat mounts i am using uses the s13 subframe, not the skyline subframe. And also the j30 subframe is different from the z32 subframe from what i have researched but am wondering the compatability with the 240. I guess i will make a trip to the junkyard

J30 is a failboat. q45, cause thats luxury.

q45 weights 4000 pounds. you can make a j30 fresh no problem and its a lot lighter and a sedan that also utilizes 240 style multilink. Not seeing where its a failboat, its not for everybody. but great positivity in this thread so far

Any reason you would want a smaller engine and more front heavier engine?

It will be a REALLY shitty track car, but a decent drift car with that engine.
If you dont plan to go pro, then it would be really cool to see something new out there.
Just make sure to slow the momentum down early, lol.

haha definetely not going pro, just a point A to point B car thats a little fun. Im gonna try to look into this some more. Definetely wont be nimble like the s13 though, but i feel like its the best 4 door candidate since i could use all my s13 suspension setup.

s13 with an rb handles just fine with the right coil setup.....i guess you would only know that if you actually drove one though =/

mount kit wont be the same, it won't lign up a J30 has a smaller engine bay than an S chassis. you will need to make custom mounts and custom driveshaft. also you will need to get rid of all your AC stuff to fit the radiator. I did an RB25 into a Z32. not fun or worth the money IMO. your honestly better off selling the RB. and doing a vg30dett .

Me and a friend put a rb25 in a j30. We transplanted it from a s13. We also modified the mikinney mounts to work in it with the j30 crossmember. I'll post up some pics if you need. We never finished the build. He has since got rid of the j30 and put the rb into an isuzu pickup.

^ thanks man that is amazing that you did that, and would be awesome if you could post up some info. I have top hat mounts have are a similar design as the mckinneys. How was the tranmission mount? And did you like how it drove with the rb?

We never finished the swap. We got as far as mounting the motor in and holding itself up. So no driving impressions.

cool did you happen to mount the transmission also? if you have any pics or info about how you modified the mounts id definetely appreciate it

We didn't modify the trans mount the mikinny one bolted up. But the mikinny motor mount all we had to do was drill an extra in the mounting plates to bolt up to the cross member. I don't have pics to show yet because I haven't been to my computer in a couple days.

the engine hoist is still attached but i assure you that we only used a modified mikinney mounts trans mount bolted right up. but you also have to get rid of the foot parking brake for the clutch pedal.
