heavy oil creates starting problem in cold weather?

i changed my oil last night and refilled it with some oil i had laying in the garage, iirc, 5w-30. This morning, I couldn’t get my car to start and it was pretty cold. I thought 5w-30 is for very, very cold weather, so does this make sense? What oil should I get from the store to put in tonight?

In the last year or 2, my car has had problem starting 2 to 3 times when on really cold mornings. Could putting heavy weighted oil be the culprit?

5w30 is thin oil. That's not your problem.

you need to be more in depth with the description of your problem.

for example, does it turn over slowly ?
does the starter just "click" and you get no rotation ?

yea that oil is thin, did you leave your lights on or anything to drain the battery? compression check? you never know, cars do weird shit sometimes

I'm going to have to agree that oil weight is irrelevant to your occasional cold start issue. My SR has had issues starting one some cold mornings when its in the high 20's or 30's(which is not very often). Mine just runs real rich and spits and sputters for a few seconds to compensate until it warms up.
