View Full Version : How much boost?

I was wondering how much boost the SR stock could handle? Because I want to upgrade to a S15 T28 ball barring Turbo and run more boost than the 14-15psi the T25 turbo handles.

With proper fuel management, a S15 T28 BB can get you 18-20 psi on the SR20DET. I know, I did it.

With proper fuel management
cannot emphasise this enough. fuel is CRITICAL.

also at that boost level on that turbo you might want to look into upgrading the MAFS

thats a very vauge newbish question too... stock what? turbo? block? intercooler? fuel system? my setups been holding 14psi on stock fuel stock mafs stock block stock headgasket etc... but at that Im maxing out the turbo the fuel system and the mafs... reword this and get better answers

Hmmm... I include the MAFS in the 'proper fuel management' part. :p

define "proper fuel management" you meant pump, injectors, ecu, and maf? what else am i missing. i also am looking to push 20 PSI

wow-o! 20 psi? now thats bold. anyhoo, like the other kids said, proper fuel managment is the key. but dont cut corners like skipping out on some parts and boosting right away. if you're looking for speed, dont risk your turbo. look into bolt ons for your SR20DET becasue a blown turbo, is a problem. yep...

i would say pump, injectors, maf, and a S-AFC to take care of the ecu (unless youre planning on going alot further with your project)

By tuning (well), you can change the bsfc of your engine, and run more power out of the same injectors. Tuning is critical. Proper fuel management is 2 parts. Proper fuel (mafs, injectors, pump (duh!)) and proper management (s-afc or reprogrammed ecu or standalone) and a way to tune it. Look at a sr owned by Enthalpy.. 539rwhp on a stock block s-13 sr. It's all about tuning, and he tunes all the SR's in Tampa, who routinely make more than the 270rwhp on stock injectors.. and 20-30rwhp more than other SR's at the same boost pressure.

You guys are all right.

I have on my car for fuel management:
- Z32 mafs
- Walbro pump
- 550cc injectors
- Safc
- Retuned ecu for 550cc and Z32 mafs

Basically, you need everything mentionned above (except SAFC) to boost 17-18 psi on the S15 Turbo.

20 psi is not efficient and will do more damage than good.

i dont know wether i stated before but, until my 240 i was a muscle car guy. i know about cars and i know abotu computers but to an american steel person computers in cars is a mystery. where could i learn how to tune an afc or stand alone OR where could i have it done? at a dyno shop? anyone know anyone good in arizona? (tampa is kinda far to drive)

I have a stock SR block with an Hybrid front mount intercooler, an already tuned ECU from a shop in Japan, SX stainless steel Turbo manifold, Turbo elbow, 3" downpipe, Apex Turbo Timer, and an Z32 Mafs,& boost & oil pressure guages....Now if I just had the hotpipe, BOV, and wiring harness i'd be set.

Running an 'already tuned ecu' from japan can be dangerous as most jdm ecu's(stock) are tuned to run around 100 octane as that is the premium fuel in that part of the world. Unless you plan on running race gas all day I would change over to a stand alone unit or possibley safc.

I'm a newbie to Nissans but I'm not ashamed, we all start somewhere. Anyway, what is a mafs?

Thanks.

Your question won't be answered due to the fact that it already has been. It depends on tuning! Propperly tunned it can handle most anything that a t25, t28 can throw at it.

More than likely the turbo will die before the engine will.

I plan on a T3 front on my T25 to give a little more flow since i dont see spending the money on a T28 when u could be saving for a 50trim. I have 550cc Injectors, Electromotive TEC2 EMS, Supra TT Fuel Pump. I'm looking to run 10psi on street and 15psi at track does anyone see this as feisable?

it's also feasable for a T28. I know I do it. :)
