Bought my self a 1989 coupe with a fresh sr20det red top. As soon as I got home I started buying parts. I sold a 300zx TT for this car. You may think im crazy but I wanted some thing different cheaper and easier to work on. I am looking to make a good reliable 300hp daily driver. http://i513.photobucket.com/albums/t338/Moto_340/100_0219.jpg

The first thing I tried to do was what I thought would be an easy task. Change the oil. As easy as this sound I should have done some research first because I couldn't get the damn oil filter off. http://icandy.zilvia.net/img/smilies/duh.gif I ended up tearing it up. Its ok though cause their was an oil leak from a sender unit for a oil pressure gauge. The owner before my stripped out the threads in the oil filter adapter so I had to source another on ebay. I think the guy cause this started the upgrades since the car was on stands why not. The first thing obviously was getting an oil relocation kit. I ordered the circuit sports kit. Very good quality and adds the bling factor because it is very shiny. Very easy install. If you can change your oil you can do this. Just screw the sandwich adapter on like an oil filter screw the stainless lines on and run them up to the new adapter. You can place it where ever you want just. My car had threaded wholes buy the fuel pump so that is where I placed it. This is a very good spot. I will post pictures of it on the car soon.
23559 also pictured is the isis turbo elbow and tanabe springs I ordered because my car came with 3 megans and one stock spring.:blah:http://icandy.zilvia.net/img/smilies/nailbite.gif

I also found out while taking the megan springs off that all four shocks where blown. The reason I choose Tanabe springs is because they do not lower the car as far as the other brands like megan. Megan does 2inches in the front and back. That may look good but it is not practical. I do not plan on drifting or autocrossing so I went with KYB GR2 shocks. I want to put the money into the motor since I may drive it fast in a straight line one day. LOL.

the red looks good under the car I will let you know how it rides. As you can see I cleaned up the wheel wells and sprayed them with fresh undercoating. It makes it look like a new car. Its a good idea to do this while you have the suspension out. Just make sure you let it dry so you don't get your pretty new shocks dirty like I did on the first one.:duh:

picked up a used godspeed intercooler for cheap. The intercooler is really nice but the fitment of the piping leaves a little to be desired although I think they have fixed it now by the looks of their pics. But the picture isn't always what you get.

I bought a circuit sports turbo elbow which only comes with a fat 02 sensor bung. I have a red top which came with a skinny 02. I comb the forums trying to find out what to do. One option is to use the supplied plug and tap it with a M12 1.50. After tons of research I ran across a thread describing the different types of 02sensors. I found out just because you have a red top doesn't mean you will use a skinny 02 it depends on the ecu you are running. I was running an E5 which uses a fat 02. My problem was solved just had to buy a new 02 bung for my wideband and have it welded on. Here is the link if you are having similar problems read up. So my intercooler hot pipe came with a universal bov flange and I have a blitz. I'm thinking no problem I will just have some one weld on a new one. Not so easy after driving around town all day I here of one man who can weld aluminum. I drive across town and of course he is not their so I had to leave it at his shop and now I am waiting for the call that either he will or will not do the welding. If he does I'm sure he is going to rape me but I have no choice now since I already cut the universal flange off. For people with an HKS bov ISIS makes a hot pipe with the flange already on it.

Keep up the good job. It's nice to see fellow zilvians out working and keeping these cars on the road :)

Don't mind all the haters and nutswingers on this forum.

thanks. Yeah I am trying to make the car look new again I have been sanding off all the surface rust replacing headlights, bulbs, and bought a cleaner interior. It's a shame what people let happen to these cars. They hated them in the 90s because of their truck motors and therefore trashed them and didn't maintain them now everybody wants one and it's hard to find a good one.

Also stripped the paint off the front bumper. It had 4 different colors on it not including primer. The history that bumper must have.

Thanks! I dyed them black which didn't turn out that great so I took a chance and bought some seat covers off of ebay and they actually fit really well as you can see and they are only 24.99 for front and backseats. bro you painted that yourself? looks awesome! If you dont mind sharing how did you go about getting that nice finish?

moto_340
05-30-2011, 07:49 PM
Thanks Yes I painted it myself. I used a single stage enamel and turned my garage into a paint booth with a window unit ac and fan. I found out after the fact that single stage paint is harder for beggineers and that metalics are the hardest of them all. I would recommend base coat clear coat so that mistakes can be sanded out if you sand single stage you sand off the uv protectants and if it is metalic you will sand out the flakes and totally mess it up. Overall mine looks good but I do have some overspray on the top of the car and the hood. If I used base coat clear coat I would be able to wet sand and buff all of that out for an intense shine. I am not worried about the hood because I am getting a carbon fiber hood one of these day's any way.

I will say this though, there is not one run on the entire car. One word of advice if you go with single stage enamel lay it on thick and have really good ventilation or do it outside so that the overspray doesn't settle back down on the car since you can't sand it.

I have had really bad luck with the circuit sports oil filter relocation kit. I can not get the thing to stop leaking. They are offering good customer support in the situation though. Any body else had problems with this part?

Thanks everybody. I replaced the oil relocation kit with a sandwich plate from ebay so that I can run the oil pressure gauge and it runs flawlessly. Circuit sports told me i used to much teflon tape. But I tried it without teflon tape which is how it is suppose to be run and then with a little and a little more and then some more and so on. The lines like to loosen on their own with vibrations even with the teflon tape. The warranty support was sending me a new line. That's right one new line when both leak good job ass wholes.

Any way the 20 dollar ebay sandwich plate is flawless I also had to by a new oil filter adapter because the threaded nipple that the oil filter screwed to sheared off when I was trying to get the Circuit sport relocation kit off which was seized on. I had to take it off and mail it back for 19 bucks thinking it was going to get replaced and they sent everything back and one new line.

Driving the car for the first time in a couple of months and my rear main seal went out. I ordered a clutch masters clutch kit and fly wheel to put on while I have the tranny off. Post pics in a couple of weeks when I get home from the dessert of California
