I am starting this thread because various different times I wanted a source of info similar to the wheel fitment thread, where I could did through and find the correct setup for me and the right amount of power I want.
some of the basic questions when buying a turbo, for me are:
how to make it fit:
how much power:
how much lag:
cost:
supporting mods:[/B]
So I imagine a thread like this can help beginners and if the more experienced folk pitch in, might becoem a source of knowledge and learnign even for veterans.
beginners and all, post your turbo questions, please search the thread in case your question has been answered previously:
Veterans Please post up your knowledge, about turbos, and suporting mods necessary..[/B]
lets try to keep it varied, we know half the community has 3871 R's so try not to post the same setup 30 times..
and keep on topic with the main points..(fitment, cost, max hp, lagg)
we could start with T25, then T28, easy upgrades like the RS/disco potato, and 2871R/ gt30/35 and on..all brands..
post up guys!
Ill add more to the fist post if you bring up important points I didnt think of.

Example post.
T28(s14)
found fairly cheap from $200-$400
quick spool around 2200-2800rpm
no supporting mods required
can make up to 2250-270 hp with a good tune, upgraded injectors and MAF,

Change "will it fit?" to "how'd you make it fit?" Which would yield more elaborate answers.
which in your post above would be clocking adaptors and oil return from s14/s15, also aftermarket oil/water lines for ease of install into s13 sr. Considering that it's going into an s13 because otherwise the s14 t28 wouldn't be an upgrade to any other sr. Better than a "yes or no" to will it fit, correct?
Ok here a question.
Looking to get about 300whp
turbo: td05h 18g
Engine: SR20DET black top
Mods: greddy intake mani, front mount, exhaust mani,3 inch exhaust, AEM true boost, everything else is pretty much stock.
What do i need to get to get to 300hp?
300zx maf, 550cc injectors, tune????

I don't think the OP was making a question thread but rather an information thread, if that makes any sense. But to answer your question, fuel injectors... about 550s - 740s should suffice, and a tune.

I do welcome questions as long as the posted makes sure it hasen been posted, 29 times before, someones questions could be a solution for another person who is lost.
if someone knows the answer could go ahead and add on, the max power that turbo could amke and what he would need to fab to make it fit..

I would think it would be a good idea to include what engine it is going on as a T28 on an s13 sr would not make the same hp as on a KA or s14 sr.
And maybe a reference to daily driven or not as to eliminate the "500 hp stock block" posts so people don't think it's normal n

ok.. I'm a sr newbie... had a ka-t with greddy set up, tdo6, 370s, n32 maf, emanage tune, laid down 284 rwhp at 8 lbs boost at 6000rpm... blew the rings... now going with sr, 550s, s15, n62 maf, emance tune, 12-14 lbs boost, 3 in exhaust, FMIC, walpro pump, megan tuned headers, 92 octane... pre dyno, what'll she do?

I say 300zx maf, 550cc injectors, and most importantly a tune. The Greddy IM is better for top end so they work better w/top mount turbos and you don't really need it for 300whp.

I made 300whp on an 18g on 18pounds with an N60 MAF, stock injectors, an SAFC2 and 60 pounds of rail pressure. Wasn't safe most likely but I did it. 550s will do fine.

On a stock turbo, or an upgrade? If you're running rich as hell, then yes, get a tune. Or just add more boost. :snoop:

I have almost the same setup as you except I have an HKS bov and it's recirculated so it doesn't run as rich. I have an HKS actuator so I'm running 11lbs. At this level a tune isn't necessary. Something's wrong if you're lagging.

Ya maybe the hoses or fins are messed i ran it with a completely cracked dump pipe for a week.
What upgrade is necessary for a s15BB on my setup? Sorry but pretty sure this thread will become more of a Q and A. Ha.

None. It will be a direct bolt-on. It wouldn't hurt to upgrade your lines and manifold, but those aren't absolutely required.

Mods should just make a new section under tech for dyno results/this sort of thing.
But I like the idea. Hopefully it will keep the number of threads asking dumb "what do I need to hit 9000whp" questions down.
On another note, when I had my SR redtop I had:
Full 3in exhaust
Test pipe
Hks bov vented to atmosphere
fmic
lightened flywheel
Clutch
Megan Turbo manifold
Running 11lbs off the stock t25/maf/injectors/etc...
I estimated I was getting around 250whp. Still the fastest SR I've driven/ridden in.

Hopefully to get the ball rolling.
2 new trubos are being released that seem phenomenal:
1st the Garret GTX line of turbos.
for example the new 3076R turbo has the same flow of a GT35R turbo but has the spool of a 30r.capable of near 700hp
same mods required to fit a gt30.
2nd and most exiting of all:
Borg Warner released the new EFR series turbos.
which have a titanium wheel 50% lighter than other turbos, with a much quicker spool also.
they come with internal waistgate and bov, or external optional.

Forced Performance TD06-20g
how to make it fit: Direct bolt on
how much power: 425whp @ 5500rpm on 1.32bar
how much lag: Full spool around 4200ish
cost: $1099 new, discontinued now.
supporting mods: 256 cams, methanol injection, Power FC, 850cc injectors, Z32 MAF, all stock motor.
I don't have VCT, I need some adjustable cam gears so I can extend the power a little higher in the RPM range.

wow I forgot about the fp 20g. I actually ran the big28 for a luttle while too. Another awesome bolt on turbo for a budget. I cant wait till I start to see the small frame turbos with billet wheels. I loved the performance of my pte6262. Spooled like a 50 trim t3/t4 but hit like a gt40r at full boil. I bet a .86ar gt2871r in billet could support 500whp with the even better spool.

I know, from 2011.. but this is a thread worth bringing up.
Who has 325-375 hp SR20 setup right now,
A.) What is your set up?
B.) What would you have done differently or what do you plan to change?
Looking for more than just, "I have 2871r .64 and basic supporting mods, shoulda gone bigger, need Moar PoWaaa."
Intersted in holset setups, what it took to make it work. I know there is a holset thread, but would like to know about various different setups for the SR around said power range.. thanks for any input.

If I could go back i would have gone Twin scroll Borg warner EFR series.

I would probably go with the 2871, the 2876 will be a lot laggier for what horsepower numbers you are wanting to run. If you have the opportunity I'd definitely go with a GTX series turbo like the GTX2860. All your other support mods look good, injectors will be too small if you want to go anywhere near 380 and up but other than that solid set up.

I'm guessing it's an SR? How many pounds are you at? Try to find out if it's a TD05 or TD06, if you take a picture of it I could figure it out as well. But anyways if its an 18g, you WILL make 300hp at about 1 bar (14.7).
With the Godspeed 18g I was seeing people hit that easily with a stock SR, 550cc injectors, ECU and 1 bar of boost.
As far as the lag goes, there isn't much you could do other than a good tune (which you haven't stated what you're tuning with) and also shorten the intercooler piping. If you have the GSP front mount chances are you have the 32 x 12 x 3 core which is way over kill for your horsepower goals. I'd go with a mid mount and that should be good for a couple hundred rpm of less lag.

yes forgot to put that up. its on a redtop stock sr. put my boost gauge in and its only reading 2-3 lbs which is sad :picardfp: ill try and get under the car sometime this week and take a pic of it. pretty sure its the TD05 cause it doesn't look as big as the TD06 sounds. guy says he put it on and hasn't done a tune. it has the stock 62 ecu.....sigh....so im trying to find if someone can chip my ecu but no one around me. ill see if I can shorten the piping and route it better. this whole car is a giant project right now
