This is my first major project that I am doing in my life with one of my cars. I started the project because when I release the clutch there is lots of grinding noise. So I read that it could be a throwout bearing or something related to the clutch.
So I decided to save some money and buy the parts and replace things by myself. I bought a Spec clutch with all the bushings/bearings that I need. It took me several hours today to just remove all of the bolts, driveshaft, exhaust mounts... just to get the freaking transmission out. My floor jack does not lift high enough which made it much more difficult to get a handle on the transmission bolts. Once I got all the bolts out the transmission gave some expected hassle but was fairly quick.
The wierd thing that happened was when I removed the pressure plate. I found a linear spring that was sitting between the clutch and the plate. I don't see this piece in the manual at all! Its about 3/8" diameter and about 1 3/4" long?
I then inspected the plate and the clutch. The clutch was completely worn out and also there were some dents and sheared parts on it because of the mystery spring.
What is this spring? Anyone know?
I'll finish the clutch job tomorrow once I get a pilot bushing puller.
