So my agent asked me to get an appraisal of my 240 so I could document the modifications... anyone done this? I know how theft prone these things are, and dont want to loose a dime. kbb puts a 98 se around 5500 which is really low compared to what they sell for on average. so If I paid about 6k, and it has coil overs(1000), carbon hood(400), jdm k's bumpers and aero(700), jdm wing(300), hid(65), hotshot header and hks exhaust(~800)... potentially rims... am I being out of control asking for an appraisal in the 8.5-9k realm? keep in mind I know it wont sell for this much! not a fan of drift tax

Also for those who have lost their rides, how did your insurance agency handle the claim in regards to the aftermarket value?

please dont put stupid comments on how not to get shit stolen, we all know it happens.

get all the receipts from your purchases, and look for a car with similar modifications/mileage/year or if you still have a bill of sale from when you bought the car

proof of purchase is key here

try getting a declared value policy for your car. My car is insured for 16k declared value, I pay a little bit more monthly in premiums and they have everything on my car documented so there is no bullshit with appraisers. Something happens to the car, I get a check.

bam.

Just curious Wayne? What insurance company are you with, and what plan?

It varies so greatly from company to company that it is hard to apply a "general rule".

Some companies want an appraisal. Some want reciepts. Some will insured for an agreed upon value that doesnt necesarily need to be documented.

I am an independent insurance agent in Illinois and represent over 20 of the top carriers in the industry. Anybody in Illinois/Wisconsin can message me with specific questions or to seek advice. Im always happy to help, but it varies so greatly that there is no "one" correct answer here.

I go through hillstar insurance based in texas through an agent I was referred to. It is not a plan or anything per say, some "AGENTS" will cater to your needs and some wont.

I tried originally going through a friend who works for farmers, they wanted like 400 a month LOL ridiculous. I'm paying just under 200 monthly for my policy, but I also have 2 tickets on my record which should be dropping off.

Need to find out what happened to my agent however as that may cause some issue when renewing my policy with the current company.
