View Full Version : Don't pump gas on March 14 2011 "GAS OUT"

mau5trap

Don't pump gas on March 14 2011. .In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in
Protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.50 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet
Network and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 14th, it would take
$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil company’s
Pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on March
14th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for
at least one day.

If you agree (which I can’t see why you wouldn’t) resend this to all your
contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on March 14"

discuss...

america is greedy. we dont even use our own oil. we buy it from other countries and burn it. we have what you call a oil reserve. if we go to war with Libya then we will actually start using our own oil. one day when we run out of oil and find more efficient way to travel then we will go to ww3. no oil = messed up economy = war! haha

thats retarded. if i were the gas company i'd raise prices to cover what was "potentially" lost but mainly to show the public not to fuck around. you'll have to get gas sooner or later

These gas boycotts NEVER work.
america is greedy. we dont even use our own oil. we buy it from other countries and burn it. we have what you call a oil reserve. if we go to war with Libya then we will actually start using our own oil.
I'm pretty sure we only get a tiny fraction of our gas from Libya. Not really enough to be a factor. And a war with them isn't gonna be like the last two we got stuck in... We won't be going in unilaterally this time. And the Libyan army is a joke compared to the Afghan and Iraqi opposition because we trained them...

it doesnt work because fucktards believe it doesnt work.. What people need to do is try to conserve fuel so they dont do it.. Maybe a reduction in motorsports activity etc. We can all live if nascar takes a week off and all the fans who wont drive to the race.

For this to work everyone would have to boycott one particular gas station company. Like chevron, shell, afford etc. And not for one day, more like a month.

Op let's boycott chevron for a month and see what happens.

Like it's been stated before, If you don't buy gas on the 14th, you'll just buy it another day. Plus, gas stations have huge tanks underground that hold thousands of gallons of fuel. All that would happen would be that the fuel delivery would just be slightly shorter for that run.

Someone else also suggested boycotting a particular gas company. That also wouldn't work because you're just taking your business elsewhere, other gas companies would be profiting. The boycotted gas company could sell it's gas to privately owned gas stations and still make some profit. The one's who would truly be hurt by this tactic would be the poor shop owners who lose their customers because of the boycott.

Whoever keeps coming up with this shit apparently didn't take Econ 101.

Seriously. It's simple supply and demand. Crude oil is a commodity and trading at 104-105 level because of the shit in Libya causing worries of a supply disruption. Demand around the world is staying the same, so when the supply slows down, the price goes up. It's not the refiners BP, COP, CVX, etc fault for the price increase. The reason for the price increase is because of the slow down, or risk of a slow down in supply, and YOU. Yes YOU. YOU control the demand. Shit, the supply could completely dry up, imagine how much oil would be then, it would be at insane levels, but imagine if everyone rode a bike or electric car, and used gas to heat their house. Demand would be way down, causing the price to come way down. Skipping a day to fill your tank does absolutely nothing, like everyone in this thread already stated. The only thing that would work is if everyone did a lifestyle change (work from home, ride a pedal bike to the store, etc). If you don't want to do a lifestyle change, don't complain about the fucking pump prices because it's your fault.

A very similar thread was posted last year. lol. I don't see why everyone is complaining. Isn't it like over $9 a gallon in Europe? I feel like we have it easy.

bp oil company :fawkd::fawkd::fawkd:
Wow you are so clueless. First off yes America is addicted to Petroleum based fuels and Petroleum as is most of the whole world.

Oh and we actually sell some of our oil. Oh and the strategic oil reserve is there for us in times of extreme need. Opening it up now is not a bad idea. The question is how much effect it would have on stabilizing or bringing down prices currently.

War with Libya? Wow again you fail, Europe is the one that uses almost all of Libyan oil and they would or should be the ones to go to war with them.
Again really unlikely. We use like 1% of Libyan oil. You really should study before you speak up about this stuff.

WW3? lol dude stop spouting this clueless shit. If you are going to discuss World economics and Politics at least know what the fuck you are talking about.

Oh and singling out BP is laughable.

0100 and Dave know what's up.

Leave it to Jason Simon to start a FB event to show everyone that there are 600,000 clueless people that failed economics class in high school....

1) People are going to stock up on fuel before, and make up for the loss after.

2) One day??? PURELY INEFFECTIVE...

3) What an economy booster this is going to be...

4) It cost $8/gal for fuel in England. Welcome to what the rest of the world pays for fuel.

5) People need to stop bitching about gas being expensive and buy something that burns less or none at all. Motorcycle, Hybrid, Bicycle, Bus, Metro..... EVEN THEN... Doing this for one day is pointless...
That is something that takes non-stop commitment that, let's face it, no one has...

Either humble yourselves or make a difference by changing the way you burn fuel. Otherwise eat spit and die, no one cares to hear complaining about the cost of fuel.

Ok, so if we use so little of Libyan crude oil, then what justifies the price hike?

Also it's not like gas wasn't this expensive a few years ago.
I for one don't find it intolerably painful, and would rather pay more for gas & deal with less traffic here in L.A.

there are like 14 different groups on facebook doing the same thing on different dates in march and april. its not going to do that much and gas is not as high as it was 2 summers ago.

i remember when it was around $4.25 a gallon in dc as an average for like 5 months and ppl just had to live with it lol. no fb groups about boycotting oil companies were being made then...in fl (where everythings cheaper) where i go to school, gas is like $3.20ish and its not all that bad. i totally understand why ppl would want to do it, but it really is feeble

and yea america does NOT have it bad compared to prices ppl pay per litre in parts of asia and most of europe...

I agree with everyone saying that the money will just be made up for the following day. So, a better way of not supporting these bastards would be for everyone just to cut back on unnecessary driving (for however long) and thus minimizing the amount of gas we consume.

maybe even something like organizing a day where you get people to not drive and just walk or stay home.

Exactly, anyone that does this is an idiot. Even if some how everyone pulled this off (LOL) you are doing nothing but hurting small business owners. You know... since oh I would says 85-90% of all gas stations are privately owned? Look at the gulf oil crisis... BP lost something like 500 mil barrels of oil, paid for the cleanup, and paid repercussions and they still turned a profit in 2010. Get real folks.

You want to save money? Get a pedal bike or a direct injection diesel car.

Single-day boycotts aren't going to do anything.

People need to put themselves in situations where they don't CARE about gas prices.

-Use public transit
-Buy a more fuel efficient vehicle
-Change your lifestyle so you don't have to drive as much

I moved way out into the suburbs, but intentionally next to Metro, so my commute is either on an employer-paid electric train or on my Ruckus (~115mpg).

Thus, my "leisure vehicle" could be an Abrams tank and I still wouldn't give a fuck about gas prices.

axiomatik
03-15-2011, 11:16 AM
First off, the anger at the oil companies is misplaced. Oil companies don't set the price of oil, Wall Street traders/the commodities market sets the price of oil, much like a stock price. So with all of the unrest in the middle east (Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, maybe spreading to others....), commodities traders think that there might be more supply disruptions in the future. So the bid up the price of oil futures banking on the price being higher in the future and they can make a buck selling their futures at a higher price. Airlines also buy oil futures to insulate themselves from spikes in oil prices.

If you really want to get back at oil companies and the huge profits they generate when oil prices spike, campaign for higher income taxes on oil companies.

Not buying gas for one day does nothing. Unless you change your habits, you are just shifting sales from one day to another. If you really want to make a statement, change your habits and use less oil. Walk or bike for short trips, take fewer trips, use mass transit, buy a more efficient car. These are the things that will make a difference. Plus, they will help insulate you from future price spikes if you use less gas.
