I decided to take it upon myself, especially after picking up a g35 6spd (non hr /concentric) transmission, to see if the newer v6 xterra 2wd's (lookup year 2008) tailshaft and shifter housing would swap over to the 350z/g35 transmission. Here is proof that it will. Notice in the schematics how the sandwich plates on both transmissions are the same number 32138. I'm going to be calling Nissan later today to see how much the tailhousing assembly is off the xterra...and posting my findings. This may be a better solution for locating the shifter in the s chassis with the tranny swap...

Ok I just called Nissan and the full part number for the xterra tailhousing kit is 32130- CD100 and the price is $402.69.

Found out Courtesy has it for $309.51

The other question that comes into play is the shifting rod/selector itself I'm sure is a different length to accomodate the difference in location of the shifter assembly.

If I can find the lot for around $200-$300...or maybe even used via car-part.com I think I'm going to try this route...or maybe even just trying to buy the tailhousing itself rather than the whole kit.

Anyway just thought I'd share my findings...although the price makes this seem kinda retarded when compared to just cutting and welding. However it's a bolt on affair much like the adapters sold on ebay for $200+

Think I've found what I'm looking for on car-part.com and talked to the guy and he's going to see if he can get me the tailhousing complete with the shift rod selector for around $100...I should know something later today.

what are you wanting to do? you wanna pull the bracket off your 350 and put the xterra tail housing on it? for what reason?

you do realize they are the same transmission right?

I believe he’s trying to eliminate the need for the modified/shortened shifter bracket when swapping the Z33 trans into a S-chassis, but I don’t see the benefit.

I’m noticing 2 things that don’t look to be in favor of your idea.
1. This is an exploded view of the transmission housing on a Z33 transmission, including the tail housing (looks to be similar positioning of the shifter opening as the Xterra one).

2. The shifter relocation bracket made here http://zilvia.net/f/drivetrain/370705-z33-sr20-adapters-back-limited-quantities.html seems to still locate the shifter a decent ways back from the tail housing.

I just can't tell how the shifter rod attaches to the transmission in the Xterra setup... I think the shifter position might be alright since it sits pretty far back when welded...
