Ok now that I'm serious about getting the RB26dett ...which one do I get? There's used which is always cheap and then there are the built one's by Tomei the derive and genesis versions of course I'd only be able to afford the derive, and then reimax.com, ag-y.co.jp has one so does Mine's and going.co.jp has one as well. Also atk.co.jp or I think that's what it was has one. Most of these built engine's are in new or mint condition and they come packed with the goods. If you run a search on yahoo.co.jp you'll find a lot of different one's mainly the one's I've named that sell these motors. And as far as I know they are N1 spec starting with something like 480-600 something ps. I saw a derive motor on ebay about a few weeks ago that the guy in texas said he got for 4k which I think was bs...and was selling it for $2150 w/ tranny and shipping included. If that deal does exist anywhere and you know of it hook me up...I will buy it immediately! Anyway if some people could share their knowledge on the route I should go with the 26' that would be great...Oh the used one is priced @ 3200 shipping included that's whole front clip + rwd tranny and the works and low miles from munleeauto.com

all i know is that crate engines are really expensive. if you have the money, why not go for a built tomei engine. but if you lack funds, try to get an rb26 clip. of course, like you said, the built motors are basically brand new. its a tough choice that involves the influence of money.
*note: if you lack funds, parts down the road for the rb aren't cheap either.

yeah I know parts cost a "cosby"load ...that's why I'm leaning more towards the new motor with high quality parts...if something goes wrong I blame tomei and send them the motor back for a new one ...as with a used clip I'm farked' if I mess anything up too much. Ahh...decisions decisions god it sucks! Oh and can I get some people's opinion ...sort of a little poll ...should I got with s15 trial front or msports s15 front...that's a hard one too. I'm getting a Rando rear bumper for my 240sx...but I want the lines to look clean so I'm thinking trial...although msports has been seen less and Lorrin from MSports in Japan told me he can get me the hookup...met him down @ Nopi ...oh yeah and I got to ride in the drift xtreme car! got it on video peeps hell yeah!

he couldnt just get a rb26dett front clip(skyline gt-r) because they are awd and i dont think i would want to venture into that. you need all sensors and etc.. with the rb26dett motor only and then you need to get a transmission from a skyline gt-s rwd cars that had the rb25det. That way everything will bolt up fine and hence no awd conversion
p.s. where can you find a cheap used rb26dett, because if you know tell me becasue all i see is around 5 grand for the motor alone becasue an awd tranny is junk for me. Im putting one into a 1972 240z:)

thanks man ...but I know this already...but hey I'm glad you finally caught on ...and if 5k is as good as you can do you really need to look harder (munleeauto.com) there you go buddy  now don't you feel special...anyway I know all the stuff about the rwd setup and yadda yadda yadda you also can get the mounts and driveshaft from mckinney as well as a custom flange for the first turbo so you miss the steering column...but yeah I don't know (of course jeez come on) and you also can keep your 240 crossmember...but hey I'm glad you know so much....appreciate the input...but I wanted opinions not knowhow.

If I was in your shoes I would source an RB30 block from a holden...then have a local (us) shop do custon pistons +rods....then add a GTR head....and build a monster....for about the price of that Tomei motor:D

if you want to do an rb26dett RWD swap you are probably better off getting an rb25det front clip and an rb26dett motor since you can use the crossmember and tranny, which are gonna be difficult to find otherwise.
And then you can sell the rb25 engine and the rb26dett tranny.

Hey how would one go about importing a $19k RB26DETT from tomei? What are you going to do about a tranny if you buy a tomei? Do you have a RB ECU to send them? Looks like you have it all figured out.

if you are paying that much for a tomei built engine, contact top secret. That have a RWD supra using an RB26DETT and I believe its a sequential trans, they could probably help you convert a high HP rb26dett to RWD.

It's not a simple as that my friend. My point was that getting one of those built engines is going to be quite an ordeal. Also 19k is how much tomei wants for a derive RB26DETT.

wtf are you talking about? I love it when people put something in quotes then put something that has nothing to do with the quoted statement below it.

oh whoops I had the whole quote in there. I just wanted to quote the first sentence about contacting top secret for a built RB and point out the fact that you make it sound like it's as easy as calling JEG's up for a 302 or something.
