Well my car doesn't want to rev past 5k in 2nd-5th gears. The RPM bounce like it was hitting the rev limiter. Now my car does have the CEL light on and it throws code 32 (egr malfunction) do you think that will cause my car to have a rev limiter at 5k?

anyways i've searched this and came up with cutting the 5th gear sensor on the tranny. Well I did the 5 spd swap about a year ago and i didn't plug the sensor in so I know its not that.

Try checking your wiring!

Did you wire any sensors during your 5 speed swap?

4th gear and 5th gear sensor! Thats the only problem or it could be your coil or distributer!

Does it feel like a fuel cut or ignition cut? Harsh or not?

im having a similar problem. It feels like I hit the rev limiter when I hit around 4k rpm in 4th and 5th gear only.

also have bad cold starts.
speedometer doesnt work either. Just throwing this in just in case the problems are related.

Any insight?

assuming its a ka. check your grounds to the far back right of your head exhaust side. it might have melted or not be tight anymore.

Reson being, ive seen a motor swap which started up fine, ran, but it revved to 5k then bogged out. even while driving itd bogg at the same rpm. The check engine light also came up at some random times. looked under the hood the two grounds near the exhaust were loose one was almost melted. Fixed it and the car runs perfectly.

Hope this helps might not. whatever. goodluck lol

i had same problem, and it ended up being my MAF sensor.. it was done.. i replace it and RPMs were all smooth.. I only changed the maf sensor and cleaned the plug.. thats all i did.

Same thing happened to my boy, would hit rev limit at 2k.. Ended up being a dirty MAF. Replace it and see what happens (don't use maf cleaner)

^^^^ you guys should try cleaning your maf sensor. Cause one of my buddy have the same problem and i bought over my other maf sensor and we just swap the maf and his car ran fine. so yea give it a shot.

ive seen this on a few KAs

Check or clean MAF

I was surprised but the 4th gear position sensor has caused this before for me too...

cheers and good luck.

bump

in 1st - 3rd gear i can redline all day

the second i shift into 4th or 5th now all my gears and car is limited to rev at 3k untill i turn the car off and turn back on and dont shift into 4th or 5th again.

should i just unplug those two sensors?

Yeah, replace the maf. Imo trying to clean it only costs you more money. Safer way is to just buy a new maf.

i had the same problem but instead of not reving past 5k on 4th or 5th gear, my car could not rev past 2k on neutral and died once i put it in first gear.

what i did and solved the problem
- changed o2 sensor
-fixed the maf wiring because the wiring was bad and shitty
-lastly tune up (plugs, wires, cap and rotor)

then restarted the computer and BAM!! my car was running again, reving past 2k rpms and driving strong.

hope you find and solve the problem to your car soon
