I'm sure most have seen this car posted around but now it resides in Texas.

Well after 4 years with a GS300 I grew bored of it and decided that I wanted something fun to drive daily again. I wasn’t sure what I wanted at that point and was initially looking for a swapped SC300 or a well taken care of and modified 240. I later came across a thread somewhere with some bad ass OG Japanese rides and I then got hooked in the idea of owning one. At one point had a trade worked out for a 72’ Celica coupe in Kentucky but with bad timing and bad weather it didn’t end up working out before the guy had a cash offer for it. After a bit more looking around I happened upon this 1971 4dr from Cali that, in looks, reminded me of the Datsun my parents had when I was growing up. So I contacted the owner and worked out a good deal, put a deposit down on it and had it on the way here a couple weeks later. It finally showed up mid last week and man… this thing smaller than I remember! Being 6’2” 230 it’s a bitch to get in and out of but once you get seated there is plenty of room and it’s actually comfy.

Driving it is a blast and the handling it has is way better than I had expected. It’s also a bit faster than I thought it was going to be and once the VVL kicks in the thing just screams. The crap tune it has is on it is rich as hell but it runs great, I haven’t had a chance to find a place to weight it yet but the guy said it was right around 2000lbs. With some cams, lightweight flywheel and a good tune this thing will be a beast.

So I've had the car for 3 or so weeks now and I've been working on the car here and there fixing some issues and trying to clean it up some. I re-did alot of the wiring and now have all of the lights working and I got the cluster / greddy gauged illuminating. I wired the tach into the Haltech so now I just need to get the software loaded and change a setting. The speedo needs a couple of parts to work and I should be getting them soon.

I've cleaned up the interior pretty good and I sprayed the door panels and dash with some black spray fabric coating.

The top pad on the dash just needed to be re-glued to sit right and I put the front dash vents in after a respray.

remounted the Haltech and cleaned the wiring up

routed the vent line for the fuel cell through the tire well and put a breather on the end, no more getting high on gas fumes!

I installed this aluminum overflow tank, I bought it before I even had the car here. Took some pics of the radiator too.

how did you get the steering wheel on? ive been trying to find something that will fit on my 280z and, being unfamiliar with that sort of thing, cant find anything or the info on how to adapt anything... thanks and SICK 510!

Thanks guys!

Well, the car was already fitted with it when I bought it. It has a Works Bell hub and some JDM adapter I haven't heard of. You just need an adapter that works with your car and a removable hub.

Not sure of your 280's year but this should work -

Nissan 74-83 260Z/280Z NRG Steering Wheel Short Hub (SRK-140H)|NRG Short Hub|NRG Innovations (http://www.racinglab.com/nrg-short-hub-nissan-004.html)

Then you just need to buy a quick release kit.

For sure, first thing is going to be redoing the fuel system. I want a setup with a surgetank to be safe, Fuel rail, FPR... Cams and all that jazz at some point but this is going to be a slow build.

Nice 510.. any videos ?

I haven't made any yet but the previous owner posted a couple on youtube. Lots of wind noise in the first one...

Yeah, the Celica was real nice and I had a motor from my Supra I planned on swapping into at some point. But it's all good, this 510 still has alot of room for improvements and it's already fast and a blast to drive :2f2f:

Finally had a chance to get some things done to the car. I just now got the software loaded onto my laptop, hooked it up to changed a setting and now have the tach working. I installed a new inline fuel filter and made some new plug wires for the coilpacks. I also cleaned all the built up gunk off of the steering links and re-greased all of them, the fender wells I cleaned, scraped and hit with some black rubberized undercoating and I resprayed the sway bar.

So these updates are a result of a domino effect. All I wanted to do was install the steering brace but I had to remove the header to get to it, so I figured since it was out might as well get it coated and add a bung for a wideband gauge. Then the rest just sort of steamrolled from there.... I had the car retuned for a MAP sensor and it runs sooo much better, picked up some HP too. It put down 220/hp and 164/tq on an unloaded dyno.

Love it or hate it, it's all good http://houston-imports.com/forums/images/smilies/2cooleek.gif

Inside -

Prosport 80mm tach
matching Greddy fuel gauge
tripple gauge pod
AEM UEGO wideband gauge
orange LED bulbs to replace the stock speedo bulbs
mounted a fire extinguisher because you never know...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/skirn1/fire.jpg

Engine bay -

Header - welded two o2 sensor bungs, had it performance coated from Polydyn and replaced the stock gasket with an S15 7 layer gasket
a new set of LS7 coil packs
I had the injectors cleaned, flowed and balanced
-8 AN lines and fittings from valve cover to the catch can
I had the lower intake runners, velocity stacks and the catch can chromed
I tapped the lower runners for vacuum lines and ran them to a vacuum distribution block --> to MAP sensor
I had the valve cover and strut bar ends powdercoated a custom mix
Transmission and LSD flushed and filled with Amsoil
brakes and clutch bled and filled with ATE super blue racing fluid
