Possible to weld a VLSD?

Good day guy. Im wondering if its possible to weld a vlsd. i have a z32 r200 in my s2000, that been rebuilt and shimmed. i was concerned when i start drifting this year that it will unlock when i dont want it to. so that leaves me with 3 options

-weld spider gears in VLSD if possible.
-find open z32 diff if they made one...Do they?
-get a kaaz diff and spend the extra loot.

another question i had is: is it possible to just change the out put shafts and use a 240 diff or is it different. if i remember correctly from looking at the housings the 240 had a longer lose/pinion gear.

You have a nice car go lsd... But yes you can weld a vlsd I have one and dont even know why I did it...

It's so much easier to go LSD may not be cheaper up front but in the long run it will be.

Hmmm, Ive been runnign a welded for 4 years now, and have had pretty good success with it.

I ran a VLSD before welded, and it wasnt bad either.
It was nice to be able to have the vlsd unlock when learning.
Saved me from a lot of mistakes and spinouts.
especially if you still do canyons and street, keep the vlsd.
They work great, and they actually lock a little slower, which can be nice while learning.

I've always heard that lsd's don't hold up great when they are welded. Could be wrong though

I daily a car with a welded diff, and it can definitely get old. Buuutt, you always know it's going to be locked when you need it, which imho is worth it.

A welded LSD has the least moving parts, lol
they hold up great.
The problem is that it needs to be done properly. (no nuts and bolts crammed in thier, deep heat, slow wire feed, all 8 contact points.)

A welded is just as annoying as a 2way when turning.
Its actually a little less noisy cause it doesnt clunk, lol.



I wouldnt wast time welding a VLSD though.
Seems real dumb to me.
Run the VLSD, while saving for a 2way (or 1.5 if you do autocross and stuff)

well what are the advantages of a kaaz lsd vs vlsd. from what ive seen kaaz diffs are pretty much locked the whole time.

and my vlsd is heavily shimmed. i get the tires skipping now when driving in a parking lot or making tight slow turns.

Just leave it shimmed and run it. If you end up not liking it buy a 1.5 or 2way diff. I've been running a welded for 3 years now and haven't had any problems at all.

Welded is .fine. all though I've heard about over shimming a vlsd and it was supposed ti work great. Ive no personal exp withthat tho.

Does anyone have a picture of a welded vlsd? I.always thought it wasn't doable. I guess o never looked into it since open diffs are way cheaper.

VLSD i had a welded shyt is annoying especially if youreee thinking about driving it on the streets (bad for the rain)
