I'm going to get a 95' KA24DE for my 93' this weekend and had a few questions.
1. Is it OBD1?
2 If so, can I use my own ECU or should I use the one it comes with?
3 Are the cams in my 93 better than the 95 and will it pass smog in cali if I switch them? How would they know?
4. Most importantly, do I need paperwork for the engine or proof from the person I'm buying from that it is not stolen for it to smog in Cali?
6. Can I just ask him to make a document saying that it is not stolen and have him sign it?
Thanks in advance
Side Note: How does the Greddy Turbo Kit work with OBD1 and OBD2 95-98's.

Ok, there's a FAQ on this, (FYI)
1. 95 is OBI, 96-98 OBII
2. Use your 93 240sx ECU
3. The 91- early 93 cams are "hotter" (better)
4. no need to show them if they do not ask for it. (you really do not need it, but for your own peace of mind, ask him to give you some paper work)
5..... you skipped #5 ..
6. Sure you can, but he may not want to do it for whatever reason, this is something I would not stress that much.

gives you an idea
Things you need to do
take from your 93 and put onto the 95
swtich exhuast manifold
intake manifold( you could just switch the upper part so you would have the S14 bottom with no butterflys) or just swith the whole manifold (upper and bottom)
egr pipe
and a/c bracket

The thing about the cams is that I've read so much misinformation about which ones are hotter that it's pretty much confused the **** out of me. Most people say that from somewhere in the middle of the 92' year, the KA's came with 232's but some say all the S13's are the same dispelling the whole 91 cam stuff.
One other thing is that it is very difficult to do searches about years of things and KAs because people use "93" and "KA" usually and 2 letter/number searches aren't allowed. Thanks again. I wish I would have known that you had a spare tranny too but I'm sure you'll get rid of it one of these days.

91 cams -- hot
92 cams -- hot
93 cams, only the early ones made, not sure from what month to what.
I would say 91 & 92 cams are the STRONG forsure
trans, let me know if you need it

I made 137 hp on my not so hot 98 cams stock.
Does that mean I should switch to 91's and make more hp?
Has anyone really checked the lift and verified that they are "hot"?

Grab 2 V-blocks and a dial indicator, you will see the difference

i made 157 to the wheels with my stock 91' ka with intake and exhaust and stock clutch. anways back to the subject the timing is different from s13 dohc to s14 dohc iirc. so smog might be a problem

well, i dont plan to pass inspection, but beside that, is there anything else that i would be worried about? so everything will work? using the 96 lower and uper harness and auto ecu with the 92 engine and 5 speed tranny... i think ll have to swap over the manifolds.. anything else?

you don't need to swap the manifold. here is how a 5 speed conversion should be done
