MT Trans fluid ->i know it need gl4 ->AMS oil rep told me that AMS oil gl5 would work

I found a local AMS Oil deal who is cheaper then anywhere online, so i went to pick up some 75-90 gl4 and when i get there he shows me the catalog and said "all of it is gl5 now which will exceed any requirements i need." I told him that the tranny has brass syncros and requires gl4 only and he replied that the "AMS oil would not hurt the brass syncros or anyhting in the tranny... and again it exceeds any requirements i many need." Is this correct? or should i just order some gl4 off AMS Oils site (http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?code=MTGQT-EA)?

The guy seamed fairly legit and knowledgeable other then having to go to his house and him being old as dirt. He had an AMS oil truck with matching trailer packed to the brim with any AMS Oil lube(except gl4) and filter imaginable and he showed me a few of his race cars, and explaining on how his AMS Oil truck had 180k miles on just one oil change because of the AMS oil and dual filter setup he has on it. So reluctantly i bought 3qts for ~$35 in hopes that i would be ok but thought i would double check. Worse case ill use it for my FD or maybe the jeep.

Well i called the AMS oil tech line and asked them. Here is basically what he said. He said that i could run the gl5 without worrying about hurting the any yellow metals or causing damage to the tranny however he would not recommend that i do so because the gl5 has more EP additives in it (for differentials) then the gl4 and could cause the shifting to feel notchy.

I was always told to stay away from GL5 on Nissan trans' because it eats syncros. Just stick with GL4, and yes Amsoil trans fluid is the shit.

I see it on AMS oils' site under the 240SX (http://www.amsoil.com/mygarage/ProductRecommendations.aspx?FromIndex=1&url2=1991+NISSAN/DATSUN+240SX+C) but they also recommend the 80-90. Is this due to the lsd?

Please stop calling it AMS oil, AMS is a totally different company. It's Amsoil, and the link posted above is their best offering. Never use GL5 when it calls for GL4. They won't mix well and there is no way to get all of it out of your trans without flushing it. Follow the advice given by previous posters and get the correct fluid from a local dealer that knows what he is talking about.

When I talked to a AMSOIL tech, basically told me GL-5 oil would be okay for our tranny IF, big IF, you just daily drive it and not push the car to get the oil temp up there. GL-5 oil reacts with the synchros when it gets really hot.
