due to me still being in high school and still not having a job(can't find one) i need advice for free mods for my sr. i searched and i found cheap mods but i couldn't find anything on mods that you can create beside the manual boost controller. im thinking of making a rectangular hole on the lower section of the bumper like the jdm zenki bumper for a 180sx. anything else?

so i take it you have a sidemount intercooler.
If you race a lot then you can create brake ducting, I guess you could do it for the hell of it, but it would be a waste of time if you dont push your car.
Not really much stuff you can do with the engine for cheap, you could find an electric fan off of some car and put it on your radiator, there are some threads on it.
Other things you can do is if you have the zenki face cut the pigface holes, a little more flow.
You can try thinking stuff up on your own and if you are unsure of the outcome post, hopefully some d*ckhead won't shoot you down and call you an idiot.

Can be done FO Fweee!

wow...i can cut the pignose holes? it's a breathing pig now! haha. once i do it though. as for the turn knob, what are you talking about, hypershift?

spin turn knob makes it so your ebrake doesent ratchet on it's way down.
You take the spring out of your ebrakeand/or reposition it.
You can then make a "knob" or buy one. My friend is using the knob to bring his back seat's down from his corolla.
It sucks when your drifts are killed by your e-brake sticking up and killing your speed.

I just bought my spin turn, 20$ shipped :-D
You can make your own CAI if you dont have one... Thats cheep.

Why in god's name would you do this?

Let's hot air that would normally get trapped under the hood escape where the back of the hood meets the firewall.
It actually does lower under-hood temps.

Yea I have seen a few people at the track do it. What exactly do use, just spacers or washers? What size would you use, and how high is optimal? Any ideas?

It also looks stupid. It only cools it by what? 10 degrees? If I were you I would just remove the weather strip by the firewall, it will let more air through and help cool your car.

actually, doing that wont
check freshalloy.com there was a huge writeup AND test on it.

It's not supposed to look anything.....cool or stupid.
I personally wouldn't put spacers on my car or remove the weather stripping.....If it lets stuff out, It'll let things in....Like water on turbo manifold. I don't have either on my car.
It helps cars that already run hot though....my friends w/ DSM and FD did it because those cars run: Hot, Boiling, and overheated.
If you wanna do it, get a little longer bolt, and a couple washers, dont get too long of a bolt, get one that is just a bit longer than the stock one. You dont want little pimples on your hood because it was too long.

shiet...back to making that hole next to the SMIC, anyone know what to use to make that rim looking thing on the jdm zenki bumper?

Black rubber hose, slice a groove in it and slide it over the edges of the hole, it will not only straighten the lines up a lil bit, but add a finished look to it.

couldn't see from your pics if you did it or not. but will it look close to the jdm zenki bumper?

No, I haven't done it to my car... ... yet.
Its not that hard, cut a hole in your bumper like this:
http://www.kaizousha.com/images_car/kb180sx28/1.JPG
and you see the lip around the hole in the pic? You can accomplish that by sliding a little hose, some tubing, weatherstripping, or whatever you find that works. If you do it well, no one will be able to tell.

rig up your window squirters to spray your intercooler
mbmbmb23
09-23-2003, 01:59 PM
-Remove black tape strip (almost free...may require Goo Gone remover)
-S14 manual seatbelts ($50-$75 from junkyard)
-Recover radio trim bezel ($10 fabric + $6 spray adhesive)
-Rent a steam cleaner and vacuum your carpet and seats
-If you have black steelies, degrease, wetsand, repaint black
-Spray dye your headliner black, paint domelight frame and rearview mirror black
-While the headliner is out, you can wire and install a pair of small surface mount tweeters into it.
-Take your gauge cluster out, open it up, and clean out dust. Also, you can use plastic polish to remove "foggy" Armor All overspray.
-While the cluster is out, paint the gauge bezel (non ricey color), also install cool hypercolor bulbs into cluster
-Use scotchbrite pad to remove dullness from the end of your wiper/turnsignal knobs.
-Door carpet can be removed to expose black plastic
-LED cluster bulbs ($12 each) to replace standard 1156(7) bulbs
-Remove the clutch slave cylinder dampener box (free)
-Goto junkyards and buy replacement parts for small broken things (window crank, broken trim, missing knobs+levers)
-Goto Home Depot and buy a 4 inch polishing wheel ($7) for your drill, then buy Columbian brand "Tripoli Compound" (item no. 59117) $5 ......then polish your tail lights and center garnish.
thats all I can think of now.

1156 and 1157 are turn signal/brake light bulbs, 194's however are the bulbs that light up our gauge clusters. :)

remove the clutch dampener, and replace rubber crappy clutch line with a stainless steel one. www.k2rd.com sells them for the rx7 but they work perfect for our cars too! part number 141-2000 iirc
will take you less than an hour to do and it makes a world of difference!

I know they are turn signal bulbs.....let me rephrase and use the word cluster as a shape..not the thing containing your speedometer.."1156+1157 replacement LED's...which are a cluster of small LED's that make up the a larger circle.

I highly suggest you do before even thinking of turning up the boost. Personally I wouldn't have run the car with out a hole for air flow. Its allready ineffecient enough, with no air flow I doubt its doing a thing :(
