intake resonator

for those of you who took out the resonator box, did you pass smog?

yes i passed with flying colors on my s13 is missouri... and i had my aiv plugged up and everything...

shouldnt be a problem anyway...its just for sound, not like it blocks anything...

if your in california they are pretty damn picky on the visual inspection. better off just leaving it as it is if you wanna pass.

come on guys, i know alot you you guys took off the resonator, just tell me what happened, if any, when you smoged it?

Just take it off. I haven't had to do any smog but I REALLY doubt they will know the 240 soo well that they notice you took off the resonator box. When you open the hood everything looks the same so I see no reason why they would say anything.

can you tell me the difference of the intake and exhust resonator

Resonators just makes the car quieter. Therefore, the intake resonator makes it quiet on the intake and and exhaust reonator makes it quieter from the exhaust.

What your talking about is the AIV. The exhaust resonator is located just before the exhaust under your car ... look like a small muffler.

i am talking about the litttle box above the exhust manfold.

removing that and replacing the fan gets you a cleaner engine bay and room.

he just said it's for nosie, now your telling me that it's the same thing as the AIV, that does what i'm talking about

the AIV (the litlle box beside the exhaust manifold) take some fresh air into the manifold to burn the excess of fuel in the exhaust gaz. its not an important part for the engine itself..

the resonator box is the thing that old your air filter... its for quiet down the noise from your intake setup

haha, ur makin this hard cause u dont know the right names for nething.

AIV- air induction valve, has a valve that at idle sends air into the exhaust. Has a tube off the airbox, goes to a black box (resonator) to a metal chamber, and then to a tube that goes to the exhaust.

y pipe extension - on an s13 this is the piece that connects the airbox inlet to the resonator box in the bumper

exhaust resonator - is a secondary muffler, on the stock 240 system u will see it bout 3/4 back, it looks like a mini muffler. it does exactly as it says...its a resonator.
