Ok, i have a 95 5spd w/ a pretty much stock KA. Today it wouldnt start. It has never had any problems like this before, the battery is fine, and I didnt change anything.
Here is the problem: I go to crank it over and nothing, no clicks or anything, not even a power draw. BUT I did hear a buzzing from the relay under the hood in the fuse box when I tried to crank it. It was the relay marked "Clutch ASDC (not sure if "ASDC" was in that order)"
So i figured it was a bad relay, i saw the part number on it and looked for another relay with that same #, i found one in the fuse panel under the dash, swapped it in and the same thing happened.
I also checked all the other fuses, nothing burnt. :bash:
What could this be? Could my started have taken a crap without warning?
I wanna get this figured out, until then is gonna be nothin but pop starts.
Thanks in advance.

*** Update ***
Ok.. drove it around today and it still wouldnt crank, must of tried it a million times. But about 3 different times it did crank over, the cranking sounded weak tho. So i figured hrmm, maybe it is the battery. I drove back to my place to swap the battery out of my other car into to check. But when I was like a block away (after bout 20min of driving) the car started to run like crap, didnt want to idle and when i put my brights on it almost died. So I figured ok it must be the alternator going out, and it was just getting a weak spark trying to feed off the battery. I then get the good battery out of my other car and try it... Nothing!??!
It doesnt make sense to me, Its not a bad battery, it couldnt be the Alternator because with a good batt it should start... right?, not the starter because that wouldnt make it run crappy...
Does anyone know WTH it could be, its driving me nuts.

*** Another Update ***
Ok today after work I looked at it again. And since it was light out I noticed that a plug wire came off of my dist cap...
So that takes care of the funny running part.
I also replaced the Clutch Interlock Relay... Still nothing. Which brings me to believe it may be the Starter. Because a fresh bettery still wont crank it.
Whats the best way to test the starter? just pull it out and hook it directly to the battery?

Oh and BTW, why would the EGR valve have ANYTHING to do with it not cranking?

hel i dont know, sometimes my car wont start, and when it does i have to rev it to keep it started. my mechanic said it was prob my EGR valve, he hooked the computer up to it real quick, b/c my check engine light was on too, and it gave the code for the EGR valve. i was just throwing a possiblilty out there for yah to try and help

Just take the starter off and take it to your local auto zone or Oriely's or some autoparts store like NAPA and they'll have a starter tester.

yeah but if it was my starter then it would have no problem running when it did get started. when i rev the engine black smoke comes out and it smells like gas, that cant be the starter

Well, I would sheck the power to the starter. Have someone turn the ignition key (and don't forget to press the clutch pedal) and see if there is 12V going to the starter. I you are not, then it can be many things. Bad wiring harness, bad grounds, the swith at the clutch not engaging properly, or arching of the power(a sign of a cut wire). Check those things. If you are getting power, then be suer all the nuts and bolts are tight on the starter and cylinoid (SP?). If they seem fine then it sounds like you may need to swap starters.

thanks, but what exactly does your EGR do?

EGR just stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve that reads the gas or something like that and tells the computor yaye or naye. My engine light just came on and my OBD II said it was the egr valve. It's hard as **** to get to though to change it. If anyone has any clue how to change the egr valve easily, let me know b/c right now, im looking at taking off the intake manifold b/c i cannot get a wrench back there for nothing.

man u are in oklahoma..fuk that EGR crap....take it off!!
i know u guys dont have emission controls there.
oh..its also frees up HP due to the fact its not putting exhaust in your intake anymore...jus pure air from the intake

How many miles does your S14 have? I have 135K and i have replaced starter, battery, and alternator. Well here's what I've learned. TO check starter keep turning your car on and off until it doesn't want to turn on. My car was bad enough to where after 2-3 tries it would crap out. Now tap the starter with tool of choice, I used hammer, a few taps should do, then try to turn it on again. If it turns on then try a couple more times to see if you get the same result, if so replace your starter. I just bought a new battery because a few weeks after getting starter then it didn't want to start again. I bought the battery and worked fine for a while. But alternator wasn't charging the battery 100% due to an oil leak that was soaking it. While I was looking for the leak, I was constantly cleaning the alternator with alternator cleaner. Leak was found and fixed and alternator finally quit on me. I got a new one which is supposed to be for 95 240 w/fog lights so it would give me 10 more amps of charging ppower than my stock alternator for my base 240(hopefully they gave me the one I asked for). NOW, my starter, battery, and alternator are replaced and my car feels faster than ever.:boink:
Cliffs notes: Replace starter and alternator, since you already got a fresh battery. Your car is doing what mine did except my lights were dim, always, but when I flashed high beams it would also turn off. Replaced alternator today actually!:boink: :boink: :boink:

sounds like a quick way to burn up your starter stilo

Not really. My starter was bad enough where 3 cranks would burn it out. And like I mentioned before, I did the "tapping test" a few times just to be certain it was the starter (few = 3). If it were a eletrical problem it wouldn't have started with the "tapping test," it just would have stayed dead until it got a jumpstart.
