:speculation only:
i would imagine that with the powder coating, you are shooting for a glossy apperience, correct?
this will likely reduce the friction against whatever belt you have running through the pulley.
anodizing looks cooler anyways:p
if you could powder coat everything but the frictional surface, i would say go for it

Powder coating isnt going to increase your weight barely at all (I am talking like maybe 15 grams here) and its going to be a hell of a lot cheaper then anodizing. With powder coating, a thin layer of ionized powder is sprayed onto your pulleys and then is baked on at about 400 degrees. With anodizing, your pulleys will be dipped in a solution of liquid methanol bicarbonate and then an electric charge will be run through the liquid. The varation of the charge will give you different colors (visible spectrum 400-700nm). With powder coating your pullys will not have as smooth of a feel as they originally did and with anodizing they will feel exactly the same. This may cause a difference performance wise, but I dont think that it would be such a differece that it would justify the extra cost of anodizing.

The GReddy pulleys are already anodized blue (obviously), you can't re-anodize something can you?

g'damn this man has some knowledge...he's me new best friend
I dont beleive either will effect your performance so drastically you would notice a huge difference. However, powdercoating will reduce friction slightly, which may result in slippage during high torque. BUT, i say BUT, I find it very diffictult to beleive that, because; if your belts are tight enough, there is no way in damn hell you are going to loose contact surface...no damn way. Matter of fact, I put a peice of plastic on a pulley to demonstrate this on my friends civic, it spun and spun and spun and noticed no slippage.

"The GReddy pulleys are already anodized blue (obviously), you can't re-anodize something can you?"
You can re-anodize them but it will be uber-expensive, evolves reverse charging the metal and I know of only a couple places in the southeast that can do it and even then the finish isnt as good as it could be.
Yeah, if you guys got any chemical/organic material questions, I am your man. I gots me a major in Biology and a double minor in chemistry and organic chemistry. Plus I worked in a machine shop for 3 years so I can answer some questions there too. Might even be able to get some milling work done if anyone needs some.

isn't biology the stufy of living organism and ish.. what you want to study is chemistry and mechanical engineering. haha. but no matter how much i try to relate it to cars, it is still so dam boring to me. :hammer:

Ha, I dont mind the whole biology and chemistry stuff but I cant stand the whole engineering thing. Your right, it is way too boring. At least with chemistry you get to make cool stuff( i.e. I know the chemical compostition for LSD and crystal meth...not that I would ever make the stuff and then sell it for profit to fund my car habit.........)
And to answer your question Swoop411, I think the Simply Green stuff involves an enzyme catalyist. While the material it is in (mostly water, some methal nitrate, and other goodies) is chemical, I am pretty sure its the enzymes in the goo that does the work. I am not 100% sure on this, and now you have sparked my intrest and I am going to do a background check on this stuff, I will get back to you on it.
