Hey whats up... Have searched the net on this specific issue I am having and have not seen any previous posts. Anyway... I recently dropped an SR in my S14 with a new Spec Stage 3 clutch kit. I screwed up and put 75-90GL-5 in it but only drove maybe 300 miles on it if that then swapped to Redline MT-90. Well the issue I am having is I get a grinding sound at weird times now and sounds drive train related. When shifting from 1st to second sometime I get a mild grinding sound and also sometimes from 2nd to 3rd. What is really weird is that sometimes I will have the car in 1st gear and when releasing the clutch, I will hear a quick grinding sound... Any ideas? This is a new clutch kit with a new throwout bearing as well. Thanks in advance!

sounds like the problem that just started with my SR too...like the clutch will be pressed in at a red light or somethin, then outta nowhere i hear this grinding noise, also with a BRAND NEW Spec clutch set up with throwout bearing and all..coincidence kinda

Hmm very weird... I have bled the master and slave and no signs of leaks in the seals. Fork is intact with no play so that's good and so is pivot ball. One time I had to turn the car off to get it to stop grinding. Was only a matter of maybe 5-10 secs but shut it down...

What's wrong with 75-90, I'm pretty sure I put RP full synthetic 75-90 in mine MT?? Should I change it?

Na, think your straight... The redline MT-90 is a GL4 gear fluid where a lot of the transmission fluids sold in Pep Boys/Autozone are mainly GL5. You can do a search on the net for more info but it pretty much says that the GL5 wears at the brass syncros in the SR tranny...

I use the royal purple 75-90w. It's GL-4 and GL-5 compatible and everyone i talked to said it would be fine. Besides i think i takes years for the GL-5 to take effect on the gears. But as far as your problem, i would say synchros as well.
