I remember we were talking about honda swaps a little while ago, and how irritatiing it is to get smoked by b18 conversions etc... but someone brought up putting a vtec head on an older ls block... does anyone have a place where I can get info on this?

Yeah, go to www.g2ic.com and hit up the forums and maybe the FAQ's. You can take a VTEC head (most commonly from a b16 motor like the Del Sol) and put it on an Ls (b18a/b18b) block and put out some good power for a relatively low price. I remember qoutes and the like for about 1400 - 2k.

Yea that's very popular, my Integra buddy is gonna do that and turbo charge it.....
I'm gonna have to push some big boost when I get my Sr vs him..

ls/vtec...crv/vtec or frankenstien...picka name
all non-tec brothers of vtec engines have more displacement ie b18b1/a1 = 1887cc while b18c1/c5 = 1787cc ...the crv uses a 2.0 liter b....b20b1....any how u take the bottem block with the greater displacement and top it off with the vtec head so u can get get extra cam profile at higher rpms...whoo hoo!

Your friend needs to be a little careful about a few things...the rods on the nonvtec blocks are pretty weak and the pistons don't have deep valve reliefs in them for the vtec head. Also the nonvtec blocks aren't made to rev to 9k like most of the vtec blocks are. The vtec blocks use piston oil squirters too..........um...yeah some other useless info too.
www.honda-tech.com is where i get almost all of my info.

You'll have to rebuild and build up the engine in order to safely handle an LS/VTEC setup. Shot-peened or aftermarket rods with aftermarket or Type R pistons would help. Eh....whatever, go here.

and when you put the head in and oil squiters, the piston will be slightly angled lik sarcasticly going /
after a while it will mess up the engine cause it will be riding on the walls around the piston.

The LS/RS/GS/SE teg engines have 1834cc and the GS-R and ITR engines have 1797cc... it's not that huge of a difference in displacement, but it does make a little difference in torque.
The CR-V engine uses a B20B4 or B20Z engine, with the former having 126hp and 146hp for the latter. This is the block that's worthwhile to use.. it's Honda's hot ticket, and the only gig in town. People have ran mid to low 11's in NA form using a CRV-TEC

#### thats pretty cheap but how much horsepower does just the head swap get you?

I've heard things here and there about the LS/VTEC setups passing smog in CA if tuned correctly since most of that stuff is internal work that quite hard to notice and you don't have to monkey around with the emissions equipment. Essentially you're keeping your original engine anyway, so that'll take care of legal issues.

Pretty amazing how many guys around here know so much about hondas. I don't think you would find the same to be true of the honda camps knowledge of nissans.. interesting stuff. We are truly a multi-faseted group.

Yea, same here. Before zilvia.net. I was at superhonda.com, g2ic.com, and honda-tech.com. Now the only boards I visit are honda-tech.com, zilvia.net, and i-club.com.

Yup - I'm also on H-T (although I rarely venture out of Accord and Competition... and rarely venture IN those... I lurk a lot). Bottom line, I think I personally know more people who are serious drivers w/ Hondas (i.e., autox, lapping days, IT, ECHC) than the total of all serious drivers w/ Nissans. Enthusiasts stick together.
