first i admit im not a big nissan fan,but after this weekend in dallas i have a new respect for the n badge.
i am a mazda man and am in charge of a 400hp 10 second maita.we have always done battle with mainly 2 cars in street class both rx7s,and after all was sain and done a silver 240 took top honors in street class at the orileys shootout.to put it into perspective the 240 was not the fastest but he did take down 7 others in his walk to the finals.his opponate had a expired nhra liscense and was dq'd.

Arg! &nbsp;Another truck engine jerk! &nbsp;I am all for the SR20DET, but, I will NEVER bash the KA. &nbsp;It is a great, torquey engine with SO much potential and strength.

okay buddy, you go ahead and spend your $6000 on your sr motor and we'll see if you are gonna run 10.83 with it. the motor alone will cost you $2-$3000 plus installation. &nbsp;leaves you a little short for performance goodies to get you in the 10's.

me and the boys at louis' 240sx forum have researched all of this truck engine madness. the KA engine was never used in a truck before the 240SX. never. the KA was put into a 240sx in 88 (yep 88 when the 89 models were made), in 89, the KA was then put into the nissan trucks.

Dig a little deeper and you will find that the design of the engine was intended for Nissan's light truck line. &nbsp;When the 200sx from europe came to N. America they used the KA engine to save on the cost of building the car. &nbsp;The engine worked well so it was tuned and became the DOHC model. &nbsp;It is a truck engine, just because it didn't start its life off under the hood of one.

It only when into the 240 because it would cost less for you to buy it that way.

Konkman... It's not just cost effectiveness to put the KA in. &nbsp;There were other factors, like too much power, gas consumption, and power that made Nissan feel it would be better to drop the KA in, over the SR / CA.

Well, truck engine... I don't hear Viper owners complaining about their &quot;truck engine&quot;... besides, the KA is definitely better for some applications. &nbsp;Of course, nowadays, with enough money and effort anything's possible. &nbsp;
If you want &quot;real deal&quot; then wouldn't an RB be more appropriate? &nbsp;That's a &quot;real&quot; race engine. &nbsp;The SR just just a plain ol' Japanese consumer engine =]

I dunno if you are serious about plopping an RB series motor into your engine bay, but... here's my warning against it.
The inline 6 is huge, and will require the relocation of just about everything.
Also, that engine will screw up the nice lightweight feel of our cars, and make the 50/50 weight bias go out, in favor of a front heavy car.
But if you're just gonna drag... go beat that 7 second RB 240!

As far as all the &quot;truck engine&quot; madness goes, my dad has a '95 pickup with the KA24 engine in it, and there is absolutely no comparison between it and my DOHC s13. The added weight, different gearing, and god knows what in there makes a world of difference. He also has a Chevy conversion van with the 350 (305 mebbe? ####, I don't follow GM <img src="#/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>) v8 engine in it, which I've been told is the same used in the vettes and camaros. An engine is just the powerplant, made to spin that l'il crank. Performance is defined by the vehicle built around it.

his turbo from what he said is a t64 and yes the car is impressive, truck motor or not.
one thing i can share from the mazda camp is that bickering among fellow racers gets the sport no-where and with little respect from those watching our growing sport.not to disrespect anyone on this site,just my .02

i agree with jeff. &nbsp;the KA is a very good engine, &nbsp;however, &nbsp;i have a 90 hatchback and the engine has over a 100k on it so i'll be doing the SR swap. &nbsp;if i had a lower mileage DOHC KA in it, &nbsp;i'd slap a turbo on it instead. &nbsp;the low-end torque of the KA (and the prestige of it being such a high displacement four-banger) is very appealing. &nbsp;

Nissan made hardbody pickups first in 86.5. &nbsp;i'm pretty sure the ka24 were in those pickups. &nbsp;

You could say the Civic Si too, but that is pushing it a bit.

What makes an engine a good truck engine also makes it a good sports car engine - a strong block. Then its just a matter of changing the head to make it optimized for high end power.

Also everyone talks about the KA being all about torque. Honestly it doesn't have a lot of low down torque, especially in the dual cam version, a lot less than most v6 cars. In the KA24DE it's mostly about the high end power.
