Welp, just like it says...Is it possible to drift in a AT? If so how to do it?

Yes, it's possible. I've done it in a G35 sedan. But it's never about how, it's about why...

remember, there are no stupid questions, only stupid people
:p
seriously, it can be done. ive seen it done. its difficult and takes lots of practice and you'll probably end up destroying your tranny. weight transfer, front braking..etc..
not many people waste their time w/ it though..but it can be done.
i wouldnt suggest it. tranny swap from AT to MT is pretty straightforward and relatively easy on s13/14 :)
good lucks to yas!

Well the "why" is b/c the newly coming S13 is a AT. And if it does destroy the transmission then I have reason to do the MT swap;)
Have ant tips on how to shift and when?

WOW:eek:......that helps.....When I try to drift in my Z I always engage cluth, rev it up,drop to 2nd or 3rd depending on speed, then pop it going in the turn. Thats why I was wondering about the neutral thing.

automatic tranny is hot. it is like having a cadillac. they shift themselves. no work needed on the driver's part. it is all smooth sailing for the car trip. luxury tranny for life.
wow... I have never done a drift befor.. But I have seen much of it... and I dont think revvin it up and dropping the clutch is a drift...
The goal is to keep the back end flowing right??? all the time??
With the Rev drop meth... I dont see how there can be much flow. I guess if there was a rev drop meth... I did a drift a few times :)
I got a neat video of this guy in japan showing all the drift starting methods... I'll tell ya now.. he never did a clutch drop.

no clutch drop for me
i was using some clutch drop when i drifted my brand new fm901s
but thats because my mind is telling me that fm901s are grippy
after a couple of runs...
no more clutch kick
the back end came loose without clutch kick and its all because of aaron's LSD;)

i used to 'drift' my old camaro that was an auto...and the easiest way ive found is similar to in a manual car. you basically find out when the auto tranny shifts so that you can 'down shift it'...so basically id come to a turn in 3rd i would brake hard until it shifted its self into 2nd and i would gas the hell out of it
(helps if it has a tac but you can tell by the feel and sound)
i found it hard to do this method at higher speeds because it was a 4 speed auto with over drive and 3rd didnt have enough power to get the rear free...
*edit* also if during the drift it shifts itself up that usualy causes a problem :-X
hope that helps dont get your self killed now

Thanks for the info. I'm mostly just finding empty parking lots for practice and a few roads around here. But cops are crazy everywhere.
