my '95 240sx fuel gauge sits on empty but the warning light never turns on. i had a '90 240 and the warning light on that never lit either. do 240sx have a warning light for low fuel?

Oh the light is there... you justhave not driven it long enough on E yet. ;) But really, the S14 gas gauge doesnt read correctly down at E, same with everyone else I have talked to. You can take it to like 1/4 tank below E almost before you are like OUT of gas.... well almost a 1/4

keep driving, the light will come on.

i tried this on my s13 that i had... i drove it til the car started to choke and the light never ever came on :bash: good thing i had backup gas.
well, i'll try it with this car as well... that little light will make me the happiest person in the whole world! lol :D

I have a 1990 and am wondering how long you can go once the light comes on. I am pretty low on gas right now, so maybe i will carry around a little gas can for when i run out.

if you have already done this please poste so we can compare results.

I get 16 miles or so when the light is on, not turning off and on. At a point, it is constant on. 16 miles or so..I am out.

the warning light on the ka won't come on until there is so little fuel in the tank that you immediatly need to fill up (well ok, within the next 20 miles).
Mine was on when I bought the car... :-\ but I've never gotten it that low since.

Hey you guys like running your cars around on E? That's not a very good thing to do with the older S13s, or really any car for that matter. I'm gonna get on my soap box for a minute.
Basically, by running the car that low you cause the fuel pump to suck up every last ounce of fuel from the bottom of the tank. This also causes the pump to suck up all the sediments and junk that lays at the bottom of the tank. This crap at the tank bottom is better off at the bottom of the tank and not in your injectors and filter. Do your car a favor and try to keep the tank at least to 1/4 level. I may be mistaken but this low fuel driving is also bad for gas mileage and puts undue stress on your already peaked out stock fuel pump. Really though, who cares if your low fuel light comes on or not? Do you really want to be one of those people stuck on the side of the highway walking to get more gas cause you're just too lazy to stop and filler up? Shoot even keeping a can of extra gas in the trunk isn't even safe!! I mean if your running your car on Empty then PUT MORE GAS IN YOUR CAR!!!

If anyone can back me up on this....please do so.

I wana try and call a BS on the whole empty crap sucking thing...

1: I dont see how running your car low on gas will make it suck up anything new... Its already sucking from the bottem of the tank! And if you drive hard it will stir all that **** up anyways.. (if there is any)

2: And its not like anything has enough time to get thick and sit on the bottem... Just waiting to get sucked in and clog your system...

You do know there is a fuel filter right? it does filter any small amount of crap in the gas....

3: Also I dont understand how running lower on gas would make it any harder for a fuel pump to do its job???? Its still just sucking fuel no matter how full it is....

So anyways... :bs:

EDIT: AND also if you think the fuel pump is guna burn out when you run low on gas... I pitty the fool who runs a stock pump with a 6psi turbo and a RFPR (rfpr? Rising fuel pressure regulator)

Well, it may be bullcrap, but I'll tell you what's not: running on Empty = stupidity. Simple end to this discussion, PUT GAS IN YOUR CAR!!!

Nuff Said!!

I have seen the fuel light once in my 95. Ever since then I make sure to play safe and fill it once it's close to the E.

I got more confused reading this post than i was before.
Is running low to no gas harder on the fuel pump?

I wouldnt see why it would be i have 325,000+km and i periodicly run it 1/4 to nothing in my tank i cant drive my car when theres more than a 1/2 a tank in it.
It kills driveability, Handeling/Accel/Braking/Milage.

In that case your engine is worn out, you need to update your power. I can feel no difference between full and 1/4 in a full throttle situation. I can however feel that 1/2 tank is athe best balance for drifting. Full tank has no slosh effect and is dead weight, 1/2 tank helps pull it around faster and makes me work harder.

I also disagree with the fuel tank sucking up junk arguement.

It's not BS because stuff that normally would float on top of the gasoline would now be low enough to be sucked up into the pick-up. The pump should have a filter, but....who wants that to get mucked up?

one bad thing, the gasoline that the fuel pump pumps, is also a lubricant, it lubricates the insides of the pump, when you run out of gas, it causes to life of the pump to decrease. also, my low fuel light doesnt come on til the engine starts choking, but then again, my gas gauge doesnt read below 1/4 tank
