I recently bought a 91 240sx coupe. The car has 135k miles on it and ran great up until now. The dude I bought it from said he hadn't done any routine maintenance so I started changing a few things. Yesterday I bought a new waterpump, and clutch fan.
After installing those I waited for the silicon crap to dry and put the coolant in. I started it and let it run for a little. The temp gauge went to hot for about 3 seconds and came back down to normal a few times. So I figured there was air in the system. I topped off the coolant and took it for a drive around my block. It ran fine.
I drove it about 15 miles away to my girlfriends house with no problems and no overheating. While on the way home I stopped for some Alberto's Mexican food. I turned into the parking lot and right when I got in the car started shaking and sounded like a subie.
I parked it and shut it off. Tried to start it again and a shit load of white smoke poured out of the tailpipe. It also wouldn't turn over. I had it towed home and let it sit over night. This morning I put more coolant in and checked the oil. The oil looked fine. Didn't have any discoloring at all.
I started it and it ran but was shaking like crazy. I looked to see if there was smoke coming out the back but there was none.
So if you're still with me after reading all that crap, does anyone have any idea what it could be?
Maybe I fried a piston ring somehow?
I do have bad plug wires that I haven't replaced yet. If that's a factor.
I'm just trying to get some information before I pull the head and it could be something much more simple.
Thank you.
