I'm going to be getting the new BW EFR 7064 turbo in the near future (once I get back from overseas). The spool in and of itself seems to be pretty fast. I'm still debating whether to go with a fully divided manifold and twin scroll turbo,, or single exit manifold and using a twin scroll turbo design. (If the turbo spools fasten enough, neither of these will be required)
If I do use spool valve, I was thinking of having one fabbed up. Here is why. I believe though the concept of the quick spool valve has its merits, I believe in execution it failed a bit because of the turbulence caused while the valve is closed. I have seen a few people make their own, and at least visually, it looks like they have improved on the design.
The problem I see with the one with the swing valve is that it does at least appear to flow the best, however, would it be too tall for a top mount setup? In other words, the turbo would sit too high?
Here is the Original Design

These are two designs that people have done on their own.
