Defective unit?
blacktop/redtops should be interchangeable... the only difference would be the 02 sensor afaik.
I'd also like to learn more about this.

ya I thought that to..if they were interchangable why would apexi sell them per year for the sr20 and have the same part#! But it set thru years
this how it reads on there site!!
414BN014 is for 180sx 1991-1994 redtop...is the one that i have!
414BN015 180sx 1994-1996.....the one that I need

I think theres only a few wires that are different (3 total iirc)
But I remember reading about pfc's not turning on if you were missing one of the ecu relays? Or something weird like that. Like your stock ecu will run fine if it only has one of the two, but PFC needs both to work.
Check the power wire of the PFC to make sure it's turning on. I bet your unit is fine, it's probably just a something as simple as no power going to the unit.

Anyone care to chime in on this?
Reason I ask, is because I have an s13 blacktop harness/ecu/engine in my car atm.
However, I'm going to be swapping in an s13 fully built redtop. If I use the blacktop harness/sensors/ecu it should be fine right?
What about a blacktop harness, with redtop ECU?

I've for sure, on several occasions, swapped between e5 and 62 ecu's with no known problems.
If you have a kouki/type x blacktop, then you'll need that specific harness I believe.

Yeah ive interchanged blacktop and redtop harness on my blacktop with no problems. I had a pgc but it fried. So I when I bought a new one someone sold me one for a type x motor which didnt let my motor crank because a few wires are different on the pinout. The blacktop and redtop differences are pretty much just the o2 sensors, redtop is skinny style while blacktop is the fat style, or the other way around I cant remember.

From talking to the people on here the stock ecu works for both redtop and blacktops.....

You are correct jacobs13 skinny o2 is for redtops and the fattys are for the blacktop, but for the most part they are the same just diff years.... Thats why i dont understand the diff in the power fc's.....

I'd try searching around for it, or try contacting steve shadows, he seems to know about this.
Here's a link to one thread (it also has a link in it to anoter thread).

I have a redtop with a blacktop harness and ecu, runs just fine. I am im the market for a PFC, only ones for sale are for redtops. I contacted Steve as he will be tuning my car, and he didnt know if a redtop PFC would hook into my blacktop harness or not. I was on the phone with Apexi earlier but with little help as the PFC guy wasnt in office. ill be calling them all day until i get a specific answer to this.

Well from what i have lerned that the apaxi part # are diff from the one that i have and from the one that i need.... I dont know anyone that is using the a blktop harness with a redtop, so im to sure! the only thing that i know is that the prc that i have will not work with a blktop motor at all.... the pics that i posted are of my friends full redtop swap and it works fine.... If there is anyone that is local to the 661 that has a redtop with a blktop harness i would be instrusted in trying it out and see if it works....

To help sell to a bigger crowd and for clarification: Blacktop chuki sr20det(ecu e5) and zenki sr20 aka redtop (62) are interchangeable. The kouki s13 sr20, also blacktop, is not interchangeable (j4, iirc) with the other s13 sr20 ecu.
