Whats up guys?
So I came across a 240sx for sale that seems like its pretty nice and has a lot of engine mods on a notch top.
I guess the guy did the wiring for the swap and didnt do the best but other than that seems good.
So I'm gonna go ahead and copy paste what he said in the add to see what you guys think about the issues with the motor. Thanks everyone.

Up for sale is my 1996 S14 240SX. The car has a Clean Title (not salvaged) and the stock 2.4L KA24DE has been swapped for a late model (97-98) S14 "notchtop" SR20DET. For anyone that doesnt already know, SR20's WILL NOT legally pass a smog test in California, however... the 240 is currently registered and smogged and legal as of now....getting it smogged to transfer the title will be the BUYERS responsibility. The car will be sold "AS IS" in a "track only state" after its sold you can do whatever you want with it if you have a smog hookup.

I bought the 240 in 08' with 205,xxx on the odometer. roughly 6 months later I swapped in the SR20 (I have shipping paperwork on the motor to prove) I installed the motor and ran it for about a year before detonation blew apart 2 pistons. After that i pulled the motor again and completely rebuilt it. I had the internals built so it could handle more hp without any problems (roslans Performance i have paperwork on the rebuild). Here is a full list of modifications done to the car starting with the Engine. Keep in mind that the odometer now reads 216,xxx so everything listed has been done within the last 10k miles, most of it within the last 2k-3k.

Engine:
Late model s14 SR20DET installed.
Huge front mount intercooler.
Double core radiator installed with the factory s14 (u.s.) fan- direct wired to a toggle switch.
Supertech stainless steel valves 2mm oversize.
new factory Nissan rockers.
B.C. valvesprings w/ titanium retainers.
Cometic head gasket w/ ARP headstuds.
Compression has been lowered to 8.2 from stock 8.5 for high boost.
cylinders bored 0.020" over.
J.E. forged pistons with total Seal rings.
Full Race crank & rod bearings
Engine balanced & crank polished at time of rebuild.
KA24 throttle body (larger than the SR)
Ebay knock off type r.s. blow off valve.
New Factory Nissan S15 T28 double ball bearing turbo bought from West Covina Nissan.
Nissan 300zx TT MAF.
New Factory Nissan 02 sensor bought from West Covina Nissan.
Full turbo back 3" exhaust w/ a gutted cat. ( its actually really quiet for a 3")
Divorced downpipe.
550cc Venom fuel injectors. ( flow tested at Jim Wolf Technologies to ensure even flow)
Manual Boost controlled set currently to 15 PSI (can run up to about 19 Psi on 91 pump gas.)
New high flow fuel filter.
Walbro 255LPH fuel pump.
NKG iridium spark plugs.
Battery has been relocated to the trunk.
ECU has been tuned by Jim Wolf Technologies to run 550cc injectors, the 300zx MAF, and the lowered comp.

Drivetrain, Wheels, & Brake Mods:

5Zigen FN01R-C Rims in Bronze 17" by 7.5 front 17" by 8 rear.
Nitto NeoGen tires with alot of good rubber left front and rear almost new.
Cross drilled & Slotted rotos front & rear.
Hawk racing Front brake pads.
Centerforce Stage 2 racing clutch.
Lightweight Flywheel.
Lowering springs were the only thing on the car when i bought it i think there Tein's? they are green.
DOT 4 brake & clutch fluid.
VLSD (limited slip diff) from an infinity with the ABS sensor hole plugged.

Interior & Exterior Mods.

Green Silvia "S" badge hood emblem (oem nissan)
"silvia" rear sticker from OEM nissan.
Glow Shift boost/vaccum gauge. ( It can change to a bunch of different colors.)
Kenwood Head Unit with an audio input jack in the glove box plus an ipod hookup in the centor console. also has a remote.
G-tech pro ss mounted on the steering collum.(measures 1/4 mile times and has a shift light.)
Sylvania silverstar headlight bulbs ( brightest legal bulbs)
Car was repainted black by maaco in santa maria i have paperwork on as well.

Issues with the Car:
When I put in the motor i made the mistake of doing my all my own wiring ( its a bear on the S14's compared to the S13 swaps) i know that some of the wiring isn't correct which is why i would prefer to sell the car to someone who know's 240's.

The windshield wiper Low speed doesnt work, med and high work fine.
The drivers window doesnt work.(iv had the panel off and it needs a window motor, there 75-100 bucks)
the pilot bearing from the aftermarket clutch rattles when its cold... its not really a problem its just annoying.
If the car idles without touching the gas for more than about 5 minutes it will go into limp mode. i know this is due to something in the wiring but it dont have the patience to track it down, its never really bothered me because it never happens during normal driving.
and lastly its sometimes a little hard to start when its cold but this is common with SR's. it will always start up, just takes a little longer.

Well thats the car. most of the money is invested in the engine. like i said i would like to sell the car to someone familiar with SR's who can put a little time into it and really have a nice built S14.

My asking price for the car is 6,200. with how rare these cars are in good condition with a fully built SR its a steal. the motor alone cost me 2400, so after all the internal parts and extra parts included its a pretty good price.

Full list of extra parts that will come with the car:
1) extra 300zx TT MAF sensor.
1) stock silvia S14 SR20DET MAF
4) stock 370cc injectors
1) stock untuned S14 SR20DET ECU
4) stock S14 wheels & tires with some tread left.
1) extra Walbro 255LPH fuel pump.
1) blown stock S14 Turbo (good for a rebuild or core)
I also still have all the A/C lines and parts minus the condensor and bracket needed to reconnect the A/C.

Honestly you should stay away from something that has been modified, because you never know what the previous person has done to it, the fact that he says he did his own wiring and that the car is having issues is a BIG SIGN to run away, don't buy someone elses problem car, no matter how appetizing the mods sound you will more than likely end up spending a shitload more just to get it running right.

yeah unless our very very good at resolving problems ect.
like for instance you have a whole shop at your disposal ect
because like raz0r said you dont know what he did to it and what he cut corners on ect
so if you plan to instantly pull the engine and rebuild it with new everything, rings, bearings ect. and then install it correctley.. then you might be ok, but thats lots of cash, and after buying this whole car thats probly too much money.

Well I'm pretty descent at trouble shooting. I fix airplanes everyday. The not wanting to start thing sounds like maybe temp sensor or one time my car didnt want to start like that because the dash harness connector up by the glove box came undone.
I dont plan on keeping the car and. Probably sell the FNs and put the stock rims on. Then sell the car. Take the motor and put it in the s13.
But I know its bad to jump into problems. I can walk away from a car if i have to.
So maybe from what people can read here can spring up some ideas to what the issues are before I go look at the car.

As above things like these end up being more of a headache than its worth. But if you can get the car for DIRT cheap, its worth it if you are looking to keep or sell the parts off and what not. I wouldn't personally try to fix his electrical mistakes, its too time consuming and there are a ton of variables. I'd get another harness and start fresh. If what he is saying is accurate, a s14 sr20det harness goes for ~$300 and another ~$200-250 to have a professional/shop to wire up a harness. For $6200 you can get a decently running s14 w/ sr20 swap and mods.

The car will be sold "AS IS" in a "track only state" after its sold you can do whatever you want with it if you have a smog hookup.

1.) "Smog hookups" are illegal.
2.) SR's are legal in Oregon and MANY other states for street use.
3.) Buy yourself a legal ride if you plan to street it in Cali.

then why buy an incomplete project in the first place if a person is intending to just go and pull and rebuild the motor haha? idk...sure sounds very dumb to buy an expensive car JUST to rebuild the motor when you could start with a $300 shell and then buy everything NEW and install yourself, if a person decides to JUST buy the car only to redo everythin? get a fresh motor or even better if your plans to go full on rebuild, buy a fawked one. more cheap then spending like $1500 for a SR Longblock or somethin.

anyway point to the o/p
dont bother wit that car, unless the owner gonna sell the car dirt cheap... like $1.5 grand cheap. Then hey wat the hell, your gonna be spending another $6k+ anyway so whats 1.5 more grand...But i mean, life is all about decision making. Hope you dont make the wrong one. In this case, that car is the WRONG decision unless ... you're just dirt rich and dont give a fawk about how much money you spend.
its a fact you got to have money to play. Dont even try entering the arcade without your quarters kidz.

dude buy it and if worst comes to worst part it out. but all your gonna have to do is buy a new harness if that one got murdered and have it converted properly (shouldnt be hard at all to find someone to do it). you could buy it and part it and make back your money plus some. offer 5.5 and enjoy
