hello there,
i have a set of powered by max coilovers on my s13, i bought them brand new about 4 months ago, about 3 weeks ago my left front coil started to do some clunking noises when i turn left or right, i didnt really daily my s13 on winter time but my daily driver car was broken down so i had to, here in Utah we get really bad snow and rain on winter so i assume weather conditions had something to do with the clunking noise. I have done research about this and it seems to be a common problem with coils but as far as i know coilovers arent supposed to do this.

What do i have to do to get rid of this noise and make sure that it doesnt come back? i talked to the guys from PBM and the say that i have to make sure that the collar perches are really tight and that to give the top pillow bearing time to break in, i checked my collar perches and they are hella tight the pillow bearing never made a clunking noise up till 3 weeks ago so i dont think thats what the problem is, i need opinions please what maintenance have you done to your coils when this problem happened to you LMK

Tnx

try tightening the top nut under the adjustment screw. sometimes it will get loose and make noises over bumps. also make sure all the nuts and bolts on your suspension are tight.

yup every nut and bolt on my front suspension has been checked and they are very tight, the PBM coils come with an extra top nut on top of the pillow bearing nut that is not supposed to allow them to come loose but i will double check that and tight it more

are you sure the perches are not upside down? i also had that clunking noise wen i bought my s14. the owner before me had put the collar perches upside down and the spring was jumping off the perches everytime i turn to the left and right.

Are you sure its the coilover? It's not the tension rods or the balljoints? Can you replicate the noise while the car is stationary?

i have not taken the coils apart at all i bought them brand new and thats how the came from factory, also i havent change preload just adjusted the camber and the height thats all.

Im 100% sure its the coils i have driven the car slowly and with my friend on the engine bay with his ear to the coils lol and we know the noise is coming from the coil, is more like a spring noise you know what i mean? all other front suspension components have been checked and everything is tight up pretty good, and i have a brand new steering rack so there is no play on the shafts
