A nice little starter system like the MB QUARTZ DSC 216 6.5" 2 Way DISCUS Separate Components for the front sound stage.

Man, $100+ ain't S H I T! I didn't see that he was a cheapskate anywhere, but if he is, he could get those Rockford Fosgate entry level Lightening Audio speakers for $29.95 at freakin Wal-Mart. They have rubber surrounds and can handle 65W R.M.S. and 150W MAX I believe.

lol i know...but the ones u are suggesting involve a little more work if im not mistaken...a little bit of custom DIY work. u know....6.5" into a 4x6" oval...thas not exactlly drop-in
the ones im talkin about are drop-in.
+ if thay are in the door he cant really get hight end componenet system with a deep basket becuz the window wont clear it..it will hit it.

Infinity Reference series sound good and they're cheap. MB Quart are very nice too. Just ask ppl to listen to what they have in their cars and see what you like. Sound rooms make things sound a lot different than what it would sound like in your car.

hahaha....no...:squint: seeing as how this is "zilvia.net" and this is in chat...about the 240sx...one could only assume he was talking about a 240sx.

u know...typically people on these boards drive 240s or are in the process of gettin one:squint:

thanks, any more suggestions would be highly appreciated

I would check out www.elitecaraudio.com (http://www.elitecaraudio.com). Their forums are really good...picked up a pair of speakers for my S14 based on what people have said/reviewed there. For your '90, don't really know whats the best (if that actually exists since everyone has their own tastes) but its a good place to start. Good luck with yer setup :D

To get good sound from the factory locations requires modification. I built two new plates for the front doors and sealed them with silicone. Instead of a 4X6, you now have room for up to a 6.5 inch speaker. I am going with a TB audio (studio driver) 4" woofer and the matching dome tweeter and yes it will all fit. The plates are built and I have cut them. I actually cut 6 of them trying different speakers out before I seal up the new plate with silicone. So far the TB's are best over time. Well that is the front.

As for the rear, acoustically it is a horrible location for anything other than lower mids to highs so believe it or not, some high power eclispe 4X6's are doing duty there. They are crossed over at 170hZ to keep them from bottoming...since they are just rear fill. Sub duty will be provided by the spare tire well once I finish my bodywork on the rear hatch today.

ha!! suk on that flip and zero!!!

well army here is what im going to do...jus use the existing 4x6 holes up front and get a pair of 6x9s for the rear and put then in 6x9 boxes. gives u highs up front and a little bass from the back from the 6x9s. 4x6s all the way around jus dont cut it...all highs

Ahem, Muzzy the young fool. In case you did not notice, I never actually referred to a specific model of 240sx per say. I own a 95' which utilizes 6.5-6.75 size speakers. I originally made my MB QUARTZ suggestion thinking he may have had what I do. That being an incorrect assumption on my part, is where and only where I faltered.

Poor guy, where do you live at, in the boonies? HaHaHaHaHa! :D

Anyways...

I am thinking about putting some Infinity reference 4X6's up front. and a pair of Eclipse 6X9's in the hatch area (does anyone know if it is easy to make the 6X9's fit in the stock location, I figure there will have to be some cutting done.)

any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

For stock replacement speakers, I would strongly recommend AGAINST Blaupunkt's 4x6s. They have been a pain in the ass ever since I bought them. I got all 4 for far less than $100 from Crutchfield. Installation was horrible, none of the speaker would line up with even 3 of the existing bolt holes, they didn't completely fill the holes in the rear, making horrible sounds. They completely lack the ability to pick up lows, even for a 4X6. I have since completely removed one of the rear speakers, and turned off the other.

I had the same model line of Blaupunks in 6 3/4" round in my old saturn, they sounded awesome, but I dunno if its acoustics or size, but they just plain suck in my 240.

WOW when i used to have my fastback, i swear i BROKE the rear speaker grills, and i didnt even install the infiniti refrences in the front, i just sold them with the car, but i got the rears installed ( only one screw though)

these things SUCK

4x6 is WAYY too SMALL

dont get infiniti refrence, at least get the best 4x6 and that is INFINITI KAPPA. turn down the bass a lil, and get some subs for the low sound

i was pushin around 1500 watts to one 12 inch audiobahn sub, **** now it dosent fit in my convertible that i just got..... anyone wanna buy....?

I answered YOUR question, Muzzy. So why don't you suck on this 8====>:yum:

Army. If you are willing to do the work, making the brackets is WELL worth it. You get a better selection of better speakers in a better size. Just don't use 3/4" MDF.....it's too thick. I'm having to rebuild mine so the door panel will fit right. Don't get me wrong, it will work, but it doesn't look "professional" at all. If you really want I can even send you a template I made. Just PM me an address.

hey Bill, just wondering if you could go into a little bit more detail on how you managed to fit 6x5's in the front? what other materials did you use?? any encountered problems (fitment wise, etc)?

Muzzy
09-15-2003, 07:30 AM
well the main concern about the front is that you have to worry about the basket depth of the speaker...if its too deep the window wont clear it when rolled down

ooooooook, if you want really good quality w/o the diy stuff. Pick up some Eclipse Fujitsu Ten 4x6's they're really really good, ill sell you mine lol, 40 shipped, i just got them a month or soo ago, but im gettin some new and even better deals, soo yea. But stay away from:
infinity
sony
kenwood
alpine

go for:
eclipse
fosgate
kicker

lol, dats bout it, your other brands:
polk
pioneer
blau w/e
mb quart, they're ok, but i personally dont see much in them, but then again, speakers are all personal taste. I would only put Eclipse, Fosgate, Kicker, Focal or Crystal in my car.

The custom plate is 3/8" thick so for a 6 1/2, I used the Morel. Seemed like a waste of this fabulous speaker to be in a 240SX door..It fit nice.

http://www.morelusa.com/renaissance/wr-6%272-thn.JPG

For the tweeter, I used these Morels:

http://www.morelusa.com/renaissance/cr-103%271-thn.JPG

These are premium speakers.

I then decided to go with the TB acoustics speakers.

Here is the mid-bass/midrange:

http://www.tb-speaker.com/detail/0722/W4-616S/w4616s_3.jpg

And here is the tweeter:

http://www.tb-speaker.com/detail/tweeter/28-847S/28847s_3.jpg

Overall, the TB speakers are smoother, have a larger sound and are lightning quick, never harsh. They are silky smooth and with just a head unit can play louder than I can yell over. The morels are better suited for another car.

I custom built my crossover networks running 6dB/Oct on the bottom of the woofer and 12dB/Oct for the top of the woofer, and 6dB/Octave on the bottom of the tweeter. The TB tweeter allows for a 900hZ crossover point up to 150 Watts RMS.

I have no depth problems with any of them due to the plate being 3/8" thick.
