I'm an engineer that supports refueling operations. I work with radiological control, which are prob the same as what your referring to as HP/RP techs.

It's good to see interest in the nuclear field. The US is strong in the navy nuclear program, but is far far behind in terms of commercial nuclear industry compared to all other countries out there, and yet we complain about the energy crisis.

Yeah, the DOE uses the term radiological control. Were as the private industry prefers "Health Physics."

I have a friend of the family that works in research. it's an amazing field but I do agree with Silverbullet. We are behind everyone in the world because of fear mongering. They buy our waste to run their plants because Heavy Water is so much more efficient compared to our ancient light water tech.

Is the OP wanting to get a job in the industry? Any specific questions?

I've been working as an AOV jr tester for AMES for the last 3 years, worked for Dz Atlantic this year. Been to turkey pt 3 times, St Lucie 4 times, Surry, point beach, Palisaides and Seabrook. I love my job. Travelling is rad, meeting new people and making friends all over the nation (not to mention women) is about as good as it gets. I go home to socal during the summer and am on the road pretty much the rest of the time. The pay is great, tax free per diem is fantastic, and collecting unemployment the rest of the time is fuckin unreal.

Btw if anyone can find me a job at whoops or songs or diablo I'll buy you lunch all week.
I've contacted crane but they're a pita, and diablo does all their own staffing.
