Yes the oil light indicates low pressure not level. Pull the oil pan and filter. Check for bent oil pan clogged oil pickup and debris in the pan.
A bent pan can push against the pickup tube causing this

you can always chance it if you want to, it is your car.
is it knocking or ticking?
Bad sending unit?
You forgot to plug in the connector to the sending unit?

did you reconnect the wires on the oil pressure sender? its next to the oil filter and easy to overlook or fray the wire upon removal and re-install. the sender itself can also get damaged and may need replaced. check that 1st. much easier that the alternative.
if the pan/pickup look ok, the oil pump gears may be worn.
I would not drive it. the oil pressure light comes on at a rediculously low level already, and if it is an oil pressure issue that made it come on, you can be guaranteed some damage is already being done.

for saftey sake i might still pressure test it with a gauge.. you can screw the gauge sensor right into where the oil pressure switch goes

see the white plug? thats the pressure switch. or what flips the oil light on and off.
you can unscrew that and stick a gauge sensor right there temporally.
also they tent to like to leak oil and fail, and its like a 5 dollar part if you want to replace it
just my 2c :)

The oil light will not come on if its not plugged in. It could be a bad sending unit or like everyone else said dented pan worn out oil pump clog something like that. I would not drive it you mite of caught it in time to still be able to save the motor

exactly its only a one wire plug, it has to ground out to send a signal. if you had a actual guage to go by then i wouldnt worry about it.
Dont drive it till you figure it out!!!

If you JUST put that in, then I'll bet the oil pan is dented, just a little. Happens all the time, from people setting them on the ground.
Doesn't take much to not have oil pressure, the pickup is very close to the bottom of the pan.
I WOULD NOT drive that car, otherwise you'll be buying another engine...soon.

agreed I wouldnt drive it until you figure out the problem. You could install a cheap oil pressure gauge from your local parts store and see what the pressure is. If its good than just say fuck it to the light.

I'm going to do it this morning but I'm curious to oil pressure test it will it leak oil when I take out the sender ? Or no?
I've never has to take one out before
