Hey guys so about a year ago I had to sell my s13, now I have money again and want to get back into drifting and just got offered my grandfathers cressida in really nice shape. I loved my s13 and I cant decide if I should get another one, or take a free Cressida and put the money I was going to buy another s13 with, into the cressida. Since this is zilvia its all about 240s and like I said i loved my s13, but a free cressida is a free cressida. Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks

If I posted in the wrong section thats my bad and go ahead and lock it, but I dont see a problem since my question thread is no different then the guy asking if he should get a cage, or re do his interior in the "Naked or Dressed" thread in this same Chat section...
And yeah I have been looking into it, there is not really much aftermarket support for the cressida, that is the only thing that concerns me.

take the cressida and sell it to fund your s13. or get an s14. what year cressida btw?
SlideKing92
01-12-2011, 03:07 AM
Its a 1990 Cressida so its a X8
dontxploitme
01-12-2011, 03:11 AM
well x8's would be the best cressida choice for drifting. parts are gonna run you dry though. s13 will be alot cheaper and easier to work with and x8 will be more unique. that's a tough one lol

id pick the cressida personally.
SlideKing92
01-12-2011, 03:15 AM
Thats exactly what I think to, the cressida is a more unique lesser seen drift car. Which is one of the things I like about it.
Sumslapper
01-12-2011, 03:21 AM
I think you already know which one you want. I would do the cressida personally. Ya less aftermarket support but you will be unique. You will be "that one guy with the cressida."

01-12-2011, 05:21 AM
id go with an s13 since I like the look alot better than the cressida but everyones different. If its gonna be a drift car go with the cressida. look more into the aftermarket parts tho cuz ur gonna need some if ur gonna drift

4 doors is way more spare tire space in the back seat and trunk lol. my friend just got a cressida. it looks like a cool project, but from what i hear it takes actual fab work to modify it instead of just bolting on everything like in a s13

At 20 the S13 is the best choice by far. Shortest distance to max seat time and least money spent is S13.

pick the one that isn't a cressida.
If you need to ask for advice between a mx83 drift car and a s13 drift car... you obviously don't belong any where near the cressida.

^^^ Agree. If you had $, drift the cressida.
But looks like you dont', so take the Cressida, sell it.
Buy S13. Unless that would break grandpa's heart???

01-12-2011, 08:39 AM
Others have mentioned it already but I'll say it again. The Cressida will run you wayyy more money in the long run. I'd take the car and sell it to put more money towards a S13 (Or you can just save the added cash for a rainy day fund).

Cressida's are awesome cars but they lack the aftermarket support here in the states. S13 would be a better choice.

I highly doubt you have what it takes to build an x8, so just go with an s chassis. i hate seeing clean luxury cars turned into POS "drift missiles" because they couldn't afford to build it properly or just lack the common sense to it right.
All these bandwagon kids are blinded by the whole 4 door drifting idea and forget what makes the cressida so rad.
as it's been stated if you take the cressida just maintain it and use it as a daily. Build the s chassis and be happy.

if it's a 5spd cressida i would take the cressida personally.
people here don't have any clue about cressida's.
i would make the cressida a 1jzgte project (1jz will swap right in with the right wiring).
no coilovers except megan racing? not a problem, there are adaptor kits for cressidas to put on coilovers from other companies such as stance.
differential? okay i'll admit, if you want an lsd from a supra you would have to swap the whole rear end pretty much.
there's options. and hey, you'll have a cooler car than an s13 when it's done.
DD the cressi, build the s13.

I guess you don't either since x8's never came 5 speed from the factory in the US. i highly doubt his grandfather would modify that car in any way.
"no coilovers except Megan Racing" hah. BC makes coilovers for that chassis as well. why would you need adapters to run stance when a company already produced stance coilovers specifically for the x8 chassis?

ill keep the cressida for a comfortable daily driver that you can cruise and chill with friends then build the s13 for personal weekend drift car.

I personally dont think cressida is a great drift car.. thats why when your at the track in drifting .. its all 240sx.. I dont know the after market parts availability is but 240sx has tons of parts to choose from. I mean any car that is free is worth taking no matter what imo. I would just get it regardless for drift or not. then when you have it .... you can decide if you want both cars or have 2.. Or .. sell it and double your money and get a really nice s13 or 14..
if you do plan on getting the cressida, i recommend you to re-torque the head bolts.
Answers.com - What are the torque specifications for 1991 Toyota Cressida cylinder head bolts (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_the_torque_specifications_for_1991_Toyota _Cressida_cylinder_head_bolts)
I used to have a x8 as a daily, bought it off a friend who gutted, converted to 5spd w/ r154 tranny, and a weldy. I loved the car but sold it to fund my s14.

Get the cressida buy a 1j from jzx90 or aristo 2j, find a r154 tranny or w58. Buy 2j water pump with housing and thermostat, Mk3 pedal set, pay someone for the wiring, s13 coilovers, welded diff and be done with it. oh custom drive shaft.

Just like others have said, if you can get the Cressida for free, use that as a daily, maybe throw some money at it here and there. Then buy a 240 and use that as your drift/race car

honestly i would go cressida but pretty much everyone here has a point on the availibilty of parts, but i go drifting with a good friend of mine alot in his cressida and that thing is badass. i mean it already has a stock dif and i believe the one your grandpa is offering you has a 7m like my buddies (his finally blew up after pushing it all the way to 260XXX) all you need is a trans and your set. also theres a few GTR parts that fit on the car, for example my friend has r33 tein coilovers in the back and he welded on a matching set for the front. apparently r33 calipers fit on the car also. i could go on and on... but if you realy need parts for a cressida check out serial 9 thats all they make

change my mind. build a 240 and let your grandfather keep the cressida. it will probably stay in a lot better shape, compared to anything you plan to do to it.
I predict you will maybe get halfway through (if that) with the cressida and realize how much time and money you wasted. and how you should've just stuck with what you knew which was an s chassis. money wise, you will get a lot further with an s chassis.

hrmm. looked that up, you're right they don't come in manual last generation.
i saw BC coilovers when i looked up cressida coilovers, but don't know much about the company, otherwise i would have pointed that out.
even more reason to get the cressida if they're a good suspension manufacturer.
5spd conversion then? pain in the ass, yes.
