Not sure if this should be posted in this section or if its been discussed but im curious about the subject. Im going to be getting rims for my s14 soon but i want to see what size rims compared to the amount of power they're spinning them with.

There are some 18x10.5 im looking at but im thinking that might be a lil too big for a s14 with SR, stock t28(10lbs), midmount. And the other option that these wheels come in is 18x9 which is smaller than id like. I was thinking id go 18x9.5-10 in rear & 18x9-10 up front. Would an inch make that big of a difference when it comes to getting/keeping the car sideways(assuming your suspension is legit)?

Lets hear what you guys have to say about the subject...

rim size does not matter as much as tire size/compound/pressures/alignment/suspension setup, also clutch and which technique you use to initiate...

YOUR RIGHT but im just curious to see what other people are running on there cars. Im sure most of us would love to have the biggest shiny wheels out there but its not practical to how much powers being put down. Im sure its not always looks that make a guy decide 17s over 18s.

So its more of a curiosity thing, instead of a direct question for myself.

*What size wheels compared to the power you have to spin them*

I think you need to give more info before anybody can even decide what will suit..

For an example, Lets say you've got the 9.5 -10's, then end up putting a 235 or 245 tyre on there, and run -1.5degree camber.. Your going to foul on the guards no doubt about it.

I had 18x10+20's 245/45's -2 degree camber and i loved the way my S14 drove altho i was making 240rwkw so spinning them wasn't to difficult, if anything i would of loved a bit less camber but my guards weren't flared much and it was already rubbing, My new setup which will give me about 270rwkw will definitely mean less camber and i may have to do more guard work if i want to keep the car low :(

For drift wheels I would get a set of 15's. Tire are cheap and the rims are also. You don't need some crazy dished wheel while drifting. Now for a show/street/cruise set I would pick up a nice set of 18x9+.

What would make me choose a bigger set of wheels would be only for show/driving, not for tracking. Larger wheels means spendy along with tires. I don't want to go burning off a new set of tires that cost 600+

^ is this guy for real haha

op,
i would say rim size is not important, ive ran 17,18x 10 on a basically stock ka. i think you 10.5 wheel choice will be just fine

i have a stock s14 sr , and 9.5j front and 10.5j back. -1.3 camber in the rear and using a 235/40-18. offset doesn't matter. i can spin these heavy VSKFs no problem. maybe some accelerated rear brake pad wear when e-braking, but besides that....they WORK.

to answer your question directly. that 1" width difference will be negligible

built ka-t and i chose 17 because i cant afford the freaking tires , not because motor cant handle it , besides ..... you can have a gazillion hp with a gazillion trq , but if your clutch set up cant hold it and transfer that energy to the wheels its useless, same with tires , if you have uber sticky tires and your clutch fails your not spinning anything but the water pump
18x10.5 -10 is a serious offset and rim , you must have some over fenders , which might say you have alot of camber to make it fit, so that contact patch just went from 10 inches wide to 6 inches because of the angle, i dont think you would have a problem with a stock sr

id say that you would want smaller than 255 out back running a t28. Unless you're cookin off cheap tires... then a 255 would be good.

On my V8 S14: (300 whp)
(Camber - Front: -5.5* Rear: -2.5* / Toe - Front: (close to 0 as possible) Rear: -2*)
Street use: (Mainly for looks)
Front - 225-235 on 18x9.5
Rear - 235-245 on 18x9.5

Track:
Front - 235-245 on 18x9.5
Rear - 265 on 18x9.5/18x10

I ran a 18x9.5 on the rear of my stock KA S13.

Like mentioned before, there are a lot of things to look at.
Some wheels are super heavy, while some are pretty light.
Tire brand and model will play a factor. tire pressure as well.
Tire size of course.

You could run a 18x10.5 with a variety of different tires. I'd say you could start low at a 225 or go higher if you want. 235, 245, 255.

Lovin the reply guys, keep it up. What are some of you other guys running when you slide your car & and how much power are you pushing?

AGAIN THIS IS MORE OUT OF GENERAL CURIOSITY, NOT JUST TO GET INFO FOR MY OWN SETUP. I UNDERSTAND THE OTHE FACTORS INVOLVED(clutch, tires, initiation style, tire contact, ECT...). JUST WANNA SEE WHAT OTHERS ARE DECIDING TO USE ON THEIR SETUPS

I was able to spin my 17x10.5s with my single cam, but it was pretty hard and was killing my clutch, so I swapped to 16s, but you'll be fine with 10.5s on an SR with T28.
