Noticed that a few people that have been running these new turbos and was after any reviews on these turbos. Currently looking at one for my JDM S15 here in Aus but there are next to no details on them over here. Any info on anyone running one would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Its a non ball bearing turbo but it seem to be a really nice kit & affordable

What I was thinking, plenty of people seem to have taken orders off of here mid last year so was hoping there would be some info floating around

^^^ read that one, theres always going to be some dodgy units, happens with Garretts as well (and looks like theres been a few from the amount of orders Ive seen going out and comments from distributors). Was hoping there'd be more info around from people running them. That bloke from Perth was running the Evo units, not the SR developed one (not sure if the same unit or not tho). Tomei do plenty of R&D on SR's so reputation wise it should be a good unit.

Honestly the only infor I've seen on it were "check this out" articles in Option and Drift Tengoku magazines. I'm surprized that there's not more hands on info for this unit. I believe there's also a thread on Silvia Aus forums...

second turbo is now back in japan being inspected...maybe I'll have a running car sometime this year. At this point my car has been down since june, and has only ran for less than 3 weeks total since I got the first turbo at the beginning of september. Not to mention the money I wasted putting the car on the dyno.
I find it really odd how all the shops did huge preorders on this turbo, and it seemed like a ton of people jumped on them, yet there are no results out there.
I seriously regret not throwing at 2871r on the car and being done with it.

This is what has left me rather baffled as there should be more user reports on this setup :bash:

Lots of new experiences with this and the M8270. The bottom line - great performers. The current issue is boost creep. We tried both models and both have this issue. My suggestion, do your homework and check-in directly with Tomei - they are aware.

I was in the same dilemma a few months back and could not find enough information on the Tomei turbos other than advertising. Any information from owners was negative and mainly about boost creep issue. Ended up getting the GT2781 .86A/R with an HKS GT internal gate and couldn't be happier.
If I were you I would wait on the new Borge Warner turbo's, they look very promising, should be out in Feb/Mar.

Waste of money IMO. Plenty of better used turbos for less.
Power gains also not impressive. Hell, if your only going for 300whp might as well sling a Godspeed 18G for $300.

300whp is more than enough in my book lol

Sent some messages around on some forums and seems like from what small amount of reviews there are they seem pretty decent. Contacted a tuner and mechanic here in aus who has done 3 of them and rates them highly, above the 2871. Tempting stuff

you need to just take a rasp and open the wg hole up - you can see in mirages thread that the hole is considerably smaller than the flapper (that the imprint anyways - his flapper broke off).
maybe on a 1.8 or 1.6 motor that hole would be ok.

The wg hole is the exact same size as the stock t28, pretty weak considering Mitsubishi (and Subaru) guys have been porting out the wastegate port on stock MHI 20g turbos and putting aftermarket 34mm flappers on them for over a decade at this point. They acted like they put so much effort into these turbos, it should have been a major consideration, instead of just a pretty actuator.
At this point Tomei (USA) has been pretty slow in dealing with this. I feel the only reason it even got jump started is Allen Lorenzo at Tomei JP called me the night before thanksgiving to check up on it, only after I told him nothing had been done did stuff start happening. They have still been slack on communication though.

Damn, talk about reaching out! Sucks to hear that Tomei NA is draggin their feet as you try to get it sorted.

whats the point of porting out the wastegate hole. I wasted my time porting it and polishing it. i decided to weld that 10 cm hole and went external instead of using the internal wastegate.
