driving impression was intense! i felt my car was already pretty solid and then i drove it like this. its rediculous how solid it feels now, everything is krisp is the only way to describe it its so smooth and pronounced now so im really happy

memory fab rail

RECARO SPG (i think)FUCK PROJECT SILIVA!!!

anyway

i decided that im going to make my own shank so that it can put the tie rod sitting more in a proper place

here is a start of what im going to do....you can see the broken one and how short it is in relation to what i will be using still in the brainstorming stage...i cant use the temp jank bolt i used today to get home

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/DSCN1333.jpg

bozo's on

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/DSCN1339.jpg

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/DSCN1344.jpg

what they used to look like

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/DSCN1338.jpg

what they look like now

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/282.jpg

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/IMG00282.jpg

done

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/IMG00289.jpg

this is how horrible stock set ups look (when the shank broke i used this jank thing to get me home, but see how maxed out it is...no no no

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/IMG00233.jpg

since i welded the inside i figured id paint it, rustoleum enamel paint is tough, i think it will do fine

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/IMG00318.jpg

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/IMG00326.jpg

shank is sitting much better with the solid shank, i think i read that techno toy tuning uses solid shanks, i see why, it seems alot safer than before

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/IMG00332.jpg

tension rods and FLCA painted because of the welded stoppers

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/IMG00336.jpg

installed

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/IMG00341.jpg

i dont know if any of you have had the tie rod jump before but it sucks, being stuck at full lock and having to tear it back out of the jump is horrible, the new set up stops the knuckle right before jump and still with plenty of angle (after the jump the trailing wheel no longer turns so the extra angle is useless)

COMMENTS, SUGGESTIONS, INSULTS, FLAME, ALL WELCOME!

im down to learn off others experiences hope you like to so far, should be ready to go very soon, and power comes next.

Are you planning on keeping the interior in or leaving it as a stripped interior with white paint?

Reason I ask is that if you plan on leaving the interior stripped, you may want to go with a different color...maybe something dark just because of light reflection.

ill go in order of responces, yes i got some pics, ill put them up now

sure if your in the sac area just got a new MIG welder so yours will be even better than mine haha (fyi, i dont care much about this chasis im going to run it into the ground and then make a nice chasis when its too undriftable this is my more learning car i.e. learn fulltrack car)

i plan on running no interior, if it is really really reflective then ill wear sun glasses lol, or do it dark, it only cost me 8 bucks to do the whole thing and its really durable so i could just paint over it no problem

here is the update

01-06-2011

picked up a super hurt bumper for 5 bucks so i can complete the kit

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/IMG00326.jpg

the stopper for the new knuckles, the rack maxed out before the tie rod would stop at the FLCA and would pivot out messing up my ackerman steering for the lead wheel so i fabbed these to fix it. The new stoppers stop the "jump" that i had before and HATED, so no more getting stuck at full lock

p.s. if anybody wants to know its 2.5 turns lock to lock (i believe thats the stock ratio) i dont know how much angle but im going to guess around 45*??

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/IMG00330.jpg

the corrected knuckle and the corrected outer tie rod set up with the spacer and solid shank

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/IMG00332.jpg

the front supsension painted and on

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/IMG00341.jpg

continuing painting the back because of the welds

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/DSCN1414.jpg
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/DSCN1413.jpg

working on a hydro e brake set up, this one is a little different now because i had to change the placement of it so ill post the final product soon

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/DSCN1406.jpg

finally the lead wheel with corrected stopper. Some background information on the knuckle, i didnt change ackerman steering much from stock because i didnt know how much to change it, its new territory for me, so upon some research i noticed that the PSM angle kit and a write up i found of a FD in FD (ahaha) made a jig for keeping the stock ackerman steering so i just adjusted it a slight bit (for less effect i.e. straighter), adjusting for less ackerman will give more angle and visa versa so if these prototypes dont work out then i will adjust it more because i have the stock ones i took off =]

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/DSCN1407.jpg
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/DSCN1408.jpg
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/mskdoutlaw/DSCN1409.jpg

i get a little more angle than that since its off the ground for the picture. The problem is when its on the ground it dosnt want to go to full lock unless its moving a slight bit so this was easier for picture purposes

this is just me, and i know you said its your 'beater' chasis, but have a little respect for the build you're doing!
everything just looks rushed for the sake of finishing quickly, from the welds, to the paint etc.
just take some time to it right the first time. like testing/setting the welder to the propper settings for the material you're working with. so you dont have so much slag and shit around all your welds, and that everything has enough penetration.
but i guess this is all just aesthetic problems.
just my $0.02

thanks for the 2 cents!, anything is open in this build and im always down for criticism

the exterior paint was when i was dd-ing the car it was like 5 different colors so i made it 1 real quick to keep me from getting pulled over im going to roller paint it a solid color but im not too concerned with how it looks, if you knew the background of this chassis like i do you wouldn't care either haha

the interior is first coat and not quite done yet (the exposed metal was starting to rust) and will end up looking better-ish (not too concerned though) once again, this chassis is messed up, everything ON the chassis i care about, but the chassis itself is crap, and ill treat it like crap

for 8 bucks its really not a big deal to me a cage will be put in eventually and ill have to strip part of it away

ive finished skidpad practicing IMO, and moving onto full track i dont want to be caring about damaging my car so i can have full freedom to push boundries

i agree with you on the welds, they are shit, the reason being the crap welder (harbor freight FTF) i had with no adjust ability and my inexperience, i was learning at the same time (the knuckles were sticked with an ancient Lincoln electric by somebody more experienced than myself )

the welder i will be using from now on is a much better argon CO2 mix shield Miller MIG welder so any welds here on out will be much better with experience and a better welder

aesthetics arnt big too me i just dont want it to go to complete crap so soon that i dont get the practice i need but i dont want to put effort into a messed chassis im just learning on

thanks for the feedback keep it comming

p.s. if your looking for the clean builds that i love to look at too, you wont find it here =] this car means to do work

thanks i appreciate that

so i was tired of looking at my car and how it was all cloudy looking

so i went to lowes and spent 50 bucks on some supplies

i ended up not needing a can (8 bucks) so i returned it...they gave me 20 bucks back.....

so this cost me 30 bucks

paint job looks good from a distance, not gonna lie. spot welds, does it really make a difference, lol is it hella noisy in the cabin?

nope its rustoleum gloss white enamel

i rolled it on 3 coats

its really like a far away paint job, there are all sorts of bugs and stuff in there, not really any drips though, im not tripping off it looking good up close

nobody takes pictures of my car anyway haha

and the welds did make a good bit of difference, with the interior and sound deadening removed its pretty loud haha

you see the bozo exhaust, those are stupid loud, unnecessarily loud
