Hey guys, I have a 90 fastback. Passed smog $400 later with a new cat. Recently in the morning, I have a hard time starting the car. It would cranks, but doesnt start. I just replaced plugs, wires, distributor cap, and distributor rotor. I would have to give it gas, once its fired up. I need to hold it at approx. 2500 rpm to keep it from dying. My car now has roughly 173,000 mi. I have not check compression or fuel pressure. Once i get the car running, it idles perfect. Sometimes when i am at a stop light, as i am letting go of the clutch and giving it gas. It would start boggling, and I need to give it more gas to keep running. This happens frequently. Any tips would help. THanks guys.

lol, i thought facebook to.
or FC
anyway.
start by checking your fuel pressure.
do it the free way first unless you happen to have a pressure tester, wich i doubt you happen to have.
so, remove the fuel line that comes off your filter, remove it from the fuel rail side.
get a rag or a gatorade bottle or something to catch the fuel
stick the hose in the bottle or rag or something, be sure you can see the hole of the hose so you can see the amount of fuel comming out.
have a friend turn the key to on. at this point the pump should prime the rail, meaning shoot fuel out of the hose.
if a solid good flow dosent come out. something is wrong.
then you can give it a few cranks and see what happens.
so, if you DONT have good pressure.
take off your filter and try to blow through it. if you cant or its hard, replace it. you can replace it with a 300zx one if you would like a bit of a better one.
if the filter is fine and you decide not to replace it anyway. the problem is problem your fuel pump. they go bad at about 200k alot.
also, check and or replace the o-rings on the injectors. its just a few bolts. getting the injectors out is kinda a pain. use wd40 and take your time and dont break them.
if you do, they are quite available at your local pickapart from multiple engines.
other than that you can check the ECU for codes.
and do a compression test for kicks.
maybe my rambling will help :)

I put my money on the fuel pump, just had mine go bad a while ago, same problems/symptoms. If its really dead and you try and maintain a constant speed/rpm you should notice some light jerking because the pump can't keep a steady/continuous stream. The methods listed above work decent for checking pressure, i'd imagine that at 200k the pump will be noticeably weak.

this
I thought he was talking about his RX-7.
and this haha.
but yeah check your Maf too. It could be simple as that. I had similar issues with my car. changed the pump, iacv, ecu. all it ended up being was a faulty maf. At least i ended up with new other parts. but shortly felt like a waste of money. (which it was) Do the easiest first and then go from there. good luck.

make sure you're not googling FB
you need to actually use the browser tab!!!!
ooooooooooooooooooh
check the MAF wiring, and check for bad gas or even if there IS any gas, sometimes the gas gauges crap out on these older cars a lot
