Yeah I think the shops have a machine that sucks out the freon gas.....anything else is probably not legal.

Yuda, to be quite honest with you, it is probably best that you have Cardoc (or whoever else here in town) go ahead and do the flush and fill for you. You will also need to buy a new dryer because your orld dryer wil no longer be any good since it has R12 in it. I have some PAG oil that you can use, so you don't have to buy any of that and the dryer will run you about $75. You *could* just vent to the atmosphere and kill the ozone if you want, that way we could replace the dryer before we take it to cardoc...
I can show you all this when you come over later :)

Recharging - Adding a can of 134a into a closed-loop system. There is no need to vent refridgerant during a AC recharge, unless you like wasting money. Also, r134a is ozone-safe, and hence the reason all cars after '95 or '96 have r134a.
Refridgerant conversion - Opening that closed-loop system to replace horrendous r12 freon with r134a refridgerant. Opening the loop of r12 releases it, which is a felony because it is nasty stuff that, as said before, kills ozone. You will need to have your freon sucked out with the machine and pay a disposal fee, too.
See Nerfdude.. different, and no need for the "pff".

Maybe if there weren't so many people with this mind-set, then we wouldn't have ridiculously strict CARB regulations, and we could all run healthy, catted SRs without fear for being hassled and having our SR-equipped (or similar) cars impounded.
