Am I just stupid or is my shifter missing something? I just got a 5 speed tranny to swap into my s14 and it came with this shifter:

Notice there are no threads on the end of the shifter for the knob to screw onto. Have any of you ever seen one like this? I bought the Mitsu heavy knob to use, can I make it work with this shifter? It might be something stupid, I've just never seen one that didn't have threads. I've looked all over the net and ebay and cant find another one without threads.

why dont you thread that shifter to use the mitsu knob? it should be the same as a stock 240 thread pitch. if you cant do it take it to a machine shop and see what they would charge.

Does it look like the shifter was broken off on top? Because that's odd.. I haven't seen a shifter like that either. You can thread it, buy a new one, or modify your shift knob so it'll lock onto the shifter with bolts.. your choice man.. that's just weird.

Ok, thanks for the replies. I thought this thing was really weird, but wasn't sure if it was some sort of universal shifter. Thanks for clarifying guys.

It doesn't look like it's been broken, I think it was made that way. I think I might take soreballz advice and get another shifter. I've got to find one for cheap. What do you guys think of the ebay knock offs? I know I should stick with name brand, but right now I just cant afford to spend the money. Besides, even an ebay knock off would be better than what I've got.

Or you can get a shift knob thats not threaded in. Instead, get ones that are secured in place with 3 allen screws.

I guess you're talking about the universal type. I've seen them at Autozone and on ebay. I would get one, but they just look so so cheap. I could almost get a new threaded shifter for what I would pay for a shift knob.

Don't waste your money on ebay. If you really just wanna replace the shifter to use your knob than you could:
A) just buy a stock shifter in the f/s section, they go for like 10.00
B) Buy an isis short shifter if you truly want a ss..at least they are backed by enjuku/ken but they don't cost 200+ bucks..

I was really wanting to use the my Mitsu shifter because I just bought the damn thing brand new and it has a nice heavy feel to it.

I know I should stay away from the ebay crap, but this swap is costing me more than I need to be spending right here at Christmas. I'll probably just get a stock shifter from somewhere just to hold me over till I can get an Isis.

yeah that shifter is garbage... Experience example: I bought my B&M shfter 6 years ago and was able to get it warranty replaced (boot tore) FREE and will continue to have a lifetime warranty on it. Just sayin...

Oh and anyone who owns a B&M, and bought it second hand, good luck getting any parts for it; they won't even sell you a part... Luckily PayPal still had the receipt.

BM or Stock, that's about it.

To me that shifter in the picture looks as if it's been cut, and then the original owner just used the set screw type shift knobs.
