had a Digital Rebel XT, then i got the G1 and realized i never use the big camera anyway, so i sold it. when i was a kid i was big into 35mm, because my dad was big into hobby photography back in the 80's or something. still have all my film stuff, probably never use it again.
this is a dumb post i'm making. who cares. and the only reason this thread exists is so the OP can talk about his cool camera. he doesn't care about mine or anybody else's. much like every "post what you own" thread.

Well the wife and I bought a Nikon D3000 for Christmas (to each other) so it looks like I picked up a new hobby. Is there any good forums for newbies to check out that you guys would recommend?

lmao... DSLR. anyways started 3 years ago with a Canon REBEL XS, then moved to an XSi and now a T1i. but i still shoot in old school mode with my lomographic cameras and Sprocket Rocket.http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb416/Seth_Dendy/sprocket-rocket-xl.jpg

Sprocket Cameras like this are cool because you can expose the sprocket holes. an unfortunate thing of digital photographers is that not many of them know anything about film unless they majored in photography. it really is so satisfying though. especially when you come up with something like this.http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb416/Seth_Dendy/sprocketrocket2.jpg

No differences really. And those are entry level toruist cameras... Semi pro crop bodies are the xxD lines like the 40d, 50d (not the 60d) and the 7d...5d is entry level semi pro full frame. The 1ds is a probody full frame. And the 1d is a 1.3 crop body pro camera. If you dont know what that means any rebel or nikon xxxxd camera will be more than enough for you to start with.

Differences are fps in raw files. A/f speeds, lcd on the top which i love and could not go without. Plastic vs magnesium alloy body. Image quality is not noticeable buy most. High iso is noticeable but not by much. The real differnece is the build and the viewfinder. Looking through a 7d than through a rebel is a joke. Its like looking through a 5d mark ii then a 50d. Huge difference in viewing size.

I started to mess around with the camera and I've realized two things. First thing is that I've got a LOT of reading to do on how to use this properly, and the second is that I REALLY want a telephoto lens (Camera came with a DX 18-55mm VR lens).

SuicidnS13
12-26-2010, 07:00 AM
Dont forget that your shooting with a crop sensor dslr.

So to find out your true focal(zoom) length take it and multiply it by 1.6(1.5 nikons) to get it.

Example an 18-55mm is really a 28-88mm lens. A 10-20mm is really a 16-31mm lens on a full frame camera. So if you get a telephoto 70-200 or longer its gonna be intense. Also do realize that camera shake is magnified the further the lens's FL is at.

If your on a budget try the sigma 70-200 OS HSM f/2.8(900.00). If not the nikor 70-200 2.8 or my lens the canon 70-200 2.8L IS MK II($2300.00).

Go to a camera store and try lenses or goto lensrentals.com and rent them. For my paid work I only use 2 lenses. The 24-70L and the 70-200L. For personal work I love primes due to the bokeh they produce..

Here are some examples. Sorry for the noise in the 1st shot it was taken with a Nikon D90 which is one noisy camera(that I grew to hate) at anything above 400 ISO. And the lighting at 2am in a casino is trash so I had to shoot at 1600 ISO to hand hold the shot. My 7d is phenomenal up to 3200 and my 5d mk II will go up to 6400 with almost no need for any noise removal. There is no photoshop BLUR filter BS in any of my shots. My editing is very minimal in all of them -

are there any good books or sites where i can read up on the whole Crop thing with Full Frame etc. Im not entirely sure i follow you. Heck, i'm even sure im really ready to upgrade to full frame or anything, which is why i'm curious about the T1/2i.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/full-frame-advantage.htm

Since im using tapatalk it wont hyperlink it. But copy paste and it will educate you about crop vs full frame. Image quality is depicted by sensor size, pixel density and glass quality. For example higher megapixels usually means more noise thus why nikon has just barely moved up to 16mp due to the noisy characteristics of there sensors. Canon has been really good at being able to control digital noise with there newer processors. Larger sensor means larger pixels which print with much better quality. Also produce sharper images SOOC( straight out of camera)

Google POTN and go to there general photography section and read the faq101 guides it will do 2 things... Teach you the basics, then drain your wallet of all funds. I went from making small amounts o money photographing cars with a rebel to making much more money shooting models and weddings with now over 30k in photo gear...

Its kinda taken me away from my car obsession... Now im inspired by wheel and bikini fitment and how im gonna light her to make her skinnier or that cars pealr paint pop... Lol
