So, my trunk is leaking water, and I was able to find the leaks,
I took some pictures,
is it clearly tail-light leak?
Both left and right side is leaking :(

Now if this is clearly a tail light leak,
if I switch out the tail lights to Kouki tails, will get rid of the leaking?

had this problem on my coupe. dry the area, take molding off, and sand down rust, then fill in the area with rtv dont just flop it in there, some how waters gettin passed the molding, and for that you gotta fig that out cause thats your unique problem. spray some primer or paint over the rust when your done.
It's not going to stop leaking with kouki lights... It's probably going to get worse if you buy a brand new set. You need to replace the sealant on the lights. Nissan uses a sealant called butyl tape that lasts about 10 years before it starts leaking. Search for 3M butyl tape at your local auto parts store. If auto parts stores don't have it, check paint shops, as they almost always have it. PM me if you have any other questions.

Or you can buy it new from Nissan. They sell taillight sealant. If you need a reason to replace the lights and go Kouki, go ahead. But don't waste your time swapping shit out with no clue as to whether or not it will stop the problem.

I already switched the Kouki's, and sadly it still leaks,
but switching to Koukis was going to happen either way.
I'm now putting that black stuff inside and outside from inside the trunk right now, I hope that fixes the leak. If not, then I'm out of ideas,
I might try that 3m thing if it doesn't work
So did you fix that leak?

Looks like the welds there have gone bad and are letting water in. Happened to mine. Got it fixed when I repainted mine. Its probably also a safe bet to replace the lift gate gasket. Costs 116 (ouch) though.

I'm having similar issues. I was convinced that replacing the hatch gasket would clear it up but I am still taking on water. My tailights were cracked and I replaced with better looking oem ones but used windshield strip caulk. It was leaking before I did that but perhaps I fixed one leak by replacing the seal and caused another by using the wrong stuff for the taillights? Silly me for doing multiple repairs on the same day. I have the same rust spots though, did you get it fixed?

No, I did not get it fixed,
I sort of stopped the tail lights from leaking, I think...
Its raining hard right now, so I just went out to check where it was leaking...
This is what I found.

Its leaking from the trunk lock/hook or w/e that thing is called where the hatch locks up with the rear. What on earth could cause this? Is it from stock foam spoiler? Cuz the spoiler is not intact, its slowly rusting off...

And does this leak look like weather strip needs to be replaced?
Is it also possible for water to leak from the back wipers? I hope not...
cuz theres another spot near where the wiper area is and its leaking from there too, I have a picture, but its not clear at all.
Yeah, I need help!
Do I need to get a new weatherstrip,
Should I just get a new hatch with no spoiler?

OK look its pretty simple. take off the interior in the trunk area all of it. then hose it down with someone outside and you inside and spot the leaks. what we do to reseal these areas is to replace the gasket that goes around theres one by the third brake light taillights, windshield wiper and theres a few holes that the spoiler go in for mounting that leaks sometimes so check it right or take it to someone. there a few good shops in Burlingame that work on 240sx's

hey i was wondering how you sealed the center piece for the tail lights. i am going to use the butyl tape for the left and right piece but im not sure if i should use it for the center because i hadn't peeled it off of their lol. it just has these foam pads.

My tail lights has that foam thing (Kouki), when I took out the center piece for the original tail lights it was butyled up.
I just left the foam thing on and did not use butyl for the center piece when I switched to the Kouki tails.
My center piece was never leaking for the original and Kouki tails.

yeah i had the pads and for the center piece and i used this stuff a guy at autozone "gauranteed" to work and so i used and when it rained i had a lake in the trunk :/ but when i pulled them back off it destroyed the center pads so i just used the butyl to seal it.now i just have to wait for it to rain. and im sure that it is only the tail lights that are leaking

Haha, I hope you fix it soon!
I always take a flashlight when it rains and put down the back seats and just lie there to see where the water is leaking from. Then I'd find a way to seal it up, and then what you know, the water finds a new hole to leak from.
Its never-ending.
