i was wondering if anyone knows if these are illegal in CA because its illegal to tint your tail lights but these come like this so i was wondering if there illegal or legal thanks for the help

Those tails aren't DOT approved to begin with, tint or no tint.
Cops don't seem to care that much around here though.

Not they are not legal, they have NO reflector in them.

Even if the tint were legal in your area, the fact that they do not contain a reflector means they are illegal for public roads.

While it may not be a huge deal, it is at least a reason to pull you over, and then find more thing to cite you for.

Actually, I have these taillights and they have reflectors in them, they are not smack dab in the middle of the lights like the stock ones though.

So because an aftermarket company sells them "smoked" already, why would it be legal? You already stated tinting tail lights were illegal, regardless of where you get them from.

why dont you do what normal individuals do, ask the vendor who sells them because the vendor that sells them is responsible for your welfare and safety. they should be knowledgeable enough to know whether or not these lights will be a liability and whether or not they comply with FMVSS 108.

this is all tongue-in-cheek though, because the vendors that sell this cheap shit usually dont even know let alone care what the FMVSS 108 requirements are, let alone what FMVSS 108 even is, nor do they understand much of anything when it comes to being DOT compliant (not approved).

bottom line, your vendor will most likely just say "uhm, yeah those are for race or offroad use only, sorry" - which doesnt protect them for shit, because anything lighting related that is sold for a specific vehicle must be DOT compliant.
