s13 autoshifter to shiftknob conversion?

I saw an auto s13 with this and i was wondering if taking off the automatic shifter to reveal the rod to put a shiftknob on it, will it be the same as a manual rod without the shiftknob?

friend did it in his auto s13.
easy.
remove t-bar.
cut down shift rod/pole a bit with hack saw or similar.
then install auto aftermarket shift knob.
razo make some which are quite nice and can be retro fitted.

most state it cant be done if vehicle has overdrive button, but we just removed it and it's all good.

he wrapped a gear boot around it to so it looks like a manual.

I've retrofitted my clutch pedal and master cylinder as well, even ran a hardline to nothing - just be sure to plug it up so your reservoir is not suspiciously empty.
