my question is: Will the sr20det pass smog in california?

Well, the engine itself is illegal, off-road use only ;)

I took a 97 (only typex) S13 blk top SR to smog, stock setup, stock everything, dp, exhaust and a cat, passed with flying colors, I'll try and look for the test print out, but I've haven't been able to find it for a while, this was about a yr and change ago

It won't pass the visual-testing.

find someone cool and slip a 100$ bill in their pocket
but make sure they are cool

some might be scared because california "law people" are actually going out undercover to get these "bad smoggers"

so make friends with him

That won't help when he gets pulled over and cited and sent to the referees.

Nothing you can do when it comes down to that, there's something you can do right now, and that is THINK about the risk, if you take it, then you shouldn't be surprised when/if that happens.

Correct me if im wrong but isnt there gonna be a new smog in cali where you are going to have to dyno your car? What are we supposed to do if this is true?

personally i think that you guys should dump the rb idea and get a supra engine- it's legal, I6, bulletproof, and can match the likes of the rb.

their are kits now so you don't have to worry about the supra swap

bpu's can get you over 400 hp for little $

how does cally smog right now?

I know in washington you role onto a dyno roler and hold your speed at 25 for a while... with i few wands up yer tail pipe...

unless your a 96+ then they just plug you in and your gone.

in calli, they hold ur rps, to 2500 for about 25 seconds, then they do some **** with your EGU, then they turn the key to ON position with the engine off, and check if ur check engine light turns on, mine ddint, he let me pass though

there is a POLICE on this forum so watch your posts:eek: :p

well you boys in norcal are freaking about smog II we have had it here in socal for years. Yes we have to stick our cars on floor dynos and then they run them under load at several different rpm's with a wand in the tailpipe . Then they do a visual and see if your check engine light is on or not.
As far as cops being on the Forum guys stop being scared. I have a friend who is CSI for LAPD and he drives a 240 and likes SR's come on they are people too! Unless they are specifically traffic detail or you are really causing them a problem they really don't care. you guys sometimes act like they are Gestapo!!

WHY O WHY IS IT ALWAYS CALIFORNIA! first the radar being illegal then enhanced smog checks.....i mean what else? no mods on ur car period?

drift freaq

sil-abc, you are going overboard. The enhanced smog checks your so scared have been here in socal for several years and there are a lot of people running SR's down here.
Second off how many times to I have to tell you guys the roving referees are not out to bust people as much as bring referee stations closer to places that have no referee stations.
There is a reason for referee's and its not a conspiracy to bust you as much as you guys think. Referees are in place for special case situations i.e. engine swaps that are actually legal but smog mechanics cannot pass you on because there are required to follow the letter of the law to the t. I.E. your car has a newer engine in it that has all the nesscary smog equipment but and the engine was offered in the states but was not the engine that came in your year. That is a example of a referee situation.

i always find it funny how similar our laws; Ontario that is, are to cali's. Radar's been banned forever and how it sounds, your smog checks are identical to ours minus carb permitted parts and the visual inspection.

Thats the one thing i'll never get though, how you can be below the limit with an 'illegal' setup why you should fail. You passed the most important part.

Guess it just comes down to sombodies doumbass cousin needed a job to do.

Yea a Toyota motor is definitely smog legal when put in a Nissan.

You cant mix manufacturers, even IF the motor was made here.:bash:

lol, that is why I love texas, I have already been pulled over twice and I even talked to one of the cops about the motor swap, he thought it was cool :)

(but I still got two friggin tickets.... :()
