hey guys. i've been having a problem with my ka24e not starting at random. some times I'll start it and it'll die if i don't give it gas for a few seconds. other times it doesn't want to start at all and it doesn't only do it on cold starts either. on the occasions when it doesn't want to start, i can push start and it'll stay on. somebody said my MAF might have been dirty. so i cleaned it and it still does it. any help would be greatly appreciated.
i don't know if any of this is help or is directly related. but...
-getting shitty gas mileage (40-50 mile 1/2 tank street drving and no i don't drive fast)
-slow response when i give it gas
-has new fuel filter and fuel lines
-low idle at first (4-5k), high idle once warm (1-1.2k)
-feels like it wants to stall when i start from first.

check you FPR and make sure it is working properly. Is there black smoke coming from your exhaust?? If either is bad then you are running rich/flooding the car at start up.
Also check your plugs/wires/cap/rotor and make sure you are getting proper spark.

Yup, it's running rich as hell and smoking specially on start up. So It's my fuel pressure regulator?

i had similiar experience with random no-startup and forcing the push start. turns out it was my starter interlock relay, its blue and its located next to the battery and windshield fluid reservoir in the engine bay. also, get your starter tested.
as with your fuel issue, i agree with checking the FPR as well as fuel pump. i replace both and put a fuel pressure gauge on the line to monitor proper pressure.
i also had some hesitation under acceleration, so i did a full tune up, wires, plugs, rotor, cap, igntion coil and i cleaned the fuel injectors and put new o-rings and insulators on too.
the joys of having a 20 year old car. lol.

thanks guys.
i think i'm gonna replace the FPR this weekend. then check check plugs, wires, cap, rotor and coil.
i just hope it's not the fuel pump. last time i couldn't find anyone selling a new o ring in my area, so i had to use the old one. it sucked. lol
240sohc, i have one of those relays sitting around my garage. i'll see if i can find it.
i'll let you guys know that happens.
