Yes without Labor if your wanting the swap done for you the best bet is to call some local shops but expect it to be in the 10k+ range, price varies by location so doubt anyone on here could give you any pricing info

I am that guy, and i just got an s14 exhuast, thanks for the offer though. also, if you take the motor you need to take the entire car, i dont have room for a shell sitting around, part it out and make money, has full interior and stuff.

you pm'd me ealier

When it comes to LS swaps most people consider price first. The motor/trans price usually depends on how many miles it has on it. I lucked out and got a wrecked 02 z28 with 52,xxx miles for only $2200. but thats dirt cheap. and then you have to get into how you are going to mount it. I recommend Sikky, great quality stuff. and Daft Innovations is also a good company. I got most of my swap done for less than 10k and that includes buying a decent condition S14 shell. Jordan innovations or Chase Bays are good places to get you wiring done

Stay LS1. LS2's almost double the cost with little gain. The LS1 can be built for less then the LS2 costs to make more power then the LS2. Been there, done that, three times lol. The LS1 is half the initial cost and then it's about half the cost on wiring and whatnot. Since the LS2's come with Vehicle Anti Theft Systems (VATS) and they are Drive By Wire (DBW) that more then doubles the costs on wiring and ecu reflash to remove that compared to the LS1.

Ultimately it's up to you, or your ego lol, whether you want to pay double for 50ci more.

i got a quote about 7500.00 for the ls2 swapp, im buying sikky ls2 conversion mounting kit. for 1700.00 + about 4g's for a hit gt0 and then headers 1g and misc stuff. soo sound right to you?

What are you talking about? VATS can be disabled with HP tuners in a matter of seconds, and you can make a cable driven TB work from an LS1 on an LS2 if you know what you're doing or you can just swap out the pedals like I did and stick with the drive by wire. After that the LS2 is a much better platform to start with. There is a reason even F-body guys switch to the LS2.

If you're smart, you can buy two wrecked GTO's from insurance auctions, part them out, keep one motor set, and buy your parts with the proceeds, and in the end you can have a swap for under $2000. Trust me, I know "someone" who has done it ;)

Its not that easy with auctions. I got mine for cheap, the next day another one sold for 4500 that was WRECKED as shit. Its a hit and miss plus you need a licence to bid on them. Parting once out for me is kinda hard, no one needs part i guess.

holemilk00
12-01-2010, 03:57 PM
I had no problem finding the right insurance auctions that would sell the public on selected days. You are right though, one day they might sell for $3200 with very little damage, and the next day one might go for $4400 that was flipped multiple times. You have to be in it for the wait, just like with any auction you have to be there on the right day when the idiots that will bid something to death aren't there. Also there are about 10 different sites I'd list parts on, and for the most part everything but the shell can be gone in about a month, then take the shell to the scrap yard and get your money for it.

Here in california, theres always crazy bids, i think i got pretty lucky on mine. I still keep looking though.

12-01-2010, 04:08 PM
I watched one sell before I had my funds together for $2600 that had ran into the back of someone just hard enough to crush the headlights and set off the air bags. And I had to watch it come and go.

how has this thread survived...there is like a million people that have written up builds on the ls motor. Close this thread. log onto "silviav8" or "ls1tech" or even "zilvia" as someone has built a ls1 in your car...matter a fact...there's one in the chat section.

Because its strayed off topic and is now giving out good information on where to source an engine for cheap.
I wouldnt have thought of insurence auctions, then known they hold public ones :)

great man, thanks.
Book marked it for future reference.

I have been wondering about that lately.
Didnt know where to start when looking for a more modern engine swap.
