Sandpaper
That will remove that nice OEM shine and make you look way cooler.

By any chance do you have any pictures of this that you could post please? If not, does it look exactly like the picture of the bmw i posted? How exactly did you prep it and actually do it?
thanks a ton

What is with the styles people go through... Im sorry but having faded looking tail lights that look like they have been sitting in the sun for 5 million years isnt attractive what so ever.

Sanding it wouldn't be bad, You could always wet sand and polish it again in the future and they would look new anyway. It would turn out way better than spraying it with some shitty spray or putting vinyl on it like you guys are talking about.

+1 for this, worst case scenario if you don't like how they look then you at least have a good surface to paint on. Use a high grit like 600 so you don't have nasty sand scratches.

ok but sanding will definitely give it the same look as the bimmer i posted?? The sprays ppl are talkin about don't seem to create the effect i want.
600 grit? that seems kinda low to me actually. i was thinkin like a wet 800??

True ballers use 80 grit to obscure their lights from other drivers.

make sure you sand in one direction, then switch directions for the other grit. like this #... go 800 or 1000 wet. Use wet any grit after 400, and even 400.

Pretty sure people do not make their taillights matte red on purpose. I believe matte taillights happen when people do a poor job painting them.

^^This is fucking funny as shit.
Now, you are all stupid. The only time you want to take sand paper to plastic is when you are getting ready to paint them and you should use real paint unless you plan on doing this a lot.
Basically do this:
500 wet sandpaper
Make sure they are clean after you sand them (you can use glass cleaner or wax and grease remover)
Adhesion promotor (its actually needed when you apply paint to plastics, oem bumpers/wings/mirrors all have to have this)
Then to get a matte look you can buy a clear coat that actually has a matte finish something like hot rod flatz etc, or clear them and THEN take a 1000 grit wet piece of sand paper to the clear coat to dull the shine but not cut through the clear (later if you decide you dont like the matte look you just buff them back to shine with this technique)

Barry, couldnt you just have suggested he simply "get off the Internet." Or, "get off on the Internet." But why be so harsh and tell him to "get the FUCK off of the Internet," I find that a bit too extreme.

I've seen both paint and vinyl used many times with success. Comes down to personal preference.
