Need Legal Advice (Bought Car Title Issues)

So in August (2010) I bought my 1990 hatch with an Sr20 already swapped in. I purchased the car from a guy (we'll call him Bill) who had apparently recently bought the car from another guy (call him George) and swapped in the SR, but since the car was just getting swapped the done Bill didn't bother getting the title put in his name. When I purchased the car, the title had been signed by George, but the purchaser field had not yet been filled out. So I filled out the purchaser field and got Bill to fill out a bill of sale to me (mostly for my own assurance).

Anyway, I go to get the title put in my name, expecting no issues as it was a clean title, but when they run the title they say that another title had been ordered by George since the issuance of that title, making that title useless.

It is now August, and I have been in multiple conversations with Bill and George, but nothing is getting done. I'm trying to consider what legal actions I could take against Bill, but since the title isn't technically in his name I'm not sure what legal ties he has to the car. As for George, he never received money from me for the car so I'm not sure if I would be able to take actions against him either.

Anyone have any suggestions?

i bought my fc from a Bill, who bought it from a george as well, and george had filled out a bill of sale with the name area blank.. bill never registered the car over to his name, so luckily i just had to put my name on the paperwork and all was good.

I need to get the most recent title from George, who can't seem to find it. Apparently he filed for a new one back in September but "still hasn't received it". AKA he's trying to feed me bullshit expecting me to take it. If I could get the most recent title from him there wouldn't be an issue, but seeing as he is not the one that I bought my car from it's hard for me to get in contact with him. And Bill is doing a terrible job of getting George to be proactive about it.

I ran into the same situation, and could not get ahold of either of them when it came time to register my car.

However, all I did was fill out a statement from the DMV stating I tried to get in contact with them both, and since the car was valued at less than 3,000(Blue book value) they registered the car to me. They just needed the bill of sale and verified the car wasn't reported stolen.
